On January 18th, the General Department of Police for Administrative Management of Social Order and Safety - Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to launch the Department of Police for Registration, Management of Residence and National Population Data.

Previously, on October 10, 2012, the Minister of Public Security signed a Decision establishing and defining the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the Department of Police for Registration, Management of Citizen Identification and National Population Data. The Department of Police for Registration, Management of Citizen Identification and National Population Data is responsible for directing and guiding the nationwide police force in the areas of registration and management of citizen identification; issuing and managing identity cards; and building, managing, and exploiting the national population database to serve state management of residence, ensuring national security and defense, and promoting economic and social development.
