The world's first floating city

The world's first floating city has begun construction with 300 houses. This is a project to cope with climate change as sea levels rise.

In early 2017, the government of French Polynesia allowed the Seasteading Institute to experiment with building a floating city consisting of many small floating islands in the ocean.

Joe Quirk, president of the Seasteading Institute, said the floating city is a way to cope with rising sea levels caused by climate change (which are expected to rise by about 1.8m by the end of this century).

The floating city is located about half a mile from the shore. People can return to the mainland by ferry.

The first buildings will serve as the core to later expand into a larger city.

Each building will have large solar panels and wind turbines. Green space will also be prioritized to maximize use.

The islands run on solar power and recycle water from the ocean.

Joe Quirk hopes that in the future about 10 islands (worth 60 million USD) will continue to be built.

According to Joe, humans need to take advantage of living space on the ocean before they can achieve the goal of living on Mars.

As rising sea levels due to climate change threaten coastal cities around the world, building a floating city could be a good option to address the problem./.
