Vinh City: Allows cars to park on sidewalks on some streets

(Baonghean.vn) – According to Mr. Le Sy Chien, Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee, the City People's Committee is submitting to the City's Urban Order Steering Committee about allowing cars to park on sidewalks.

After nearly 2 months of implementation, the implementation of urban beautification and sidewalk clearance has revealed some shortcomings. That is the situation of cars parked on the road, causing difficulties for motorcyclists and cyclists and narrowing the road, the situation of cars parked on the sidewalks continues, besides, many stores have difficulty in doing business.

Faced with that situation, the City People's Committee met and agreed to propose a number of solutions:

For roads with sidewalks wider than 9m such as:Tran Phu, Le Mao, Quang Trung, Le Duan, Phan Dinh Phung... the city allows cars to park along the sidewalk with an area of ​​5.5m, reserving at least 1.5m for pedestrians and 2m inside for motorbikes.

For roads with sidewalks from 6m to less than 9m wide:From the tree line, cars can be parked half on the sidewalk, half on the road, with the sidewalk in the middle for pedestrians at least 1.5m wide and the remaining 2m inside for motorbikes.

As for roads with sidewalks under 6m, cars are not allowed to park on the sidewalk.

Mr. Le Sy Chien said: The scattered sidewalk parking lot is currently facing funding issues. And based on the proposals of some offices, specific locations that need parking spaces such as: in front of Vinh City General Hospital; in front of Vietcombank Nghe An branch, Vinh City Tax Department, Nghe An Import-Export Joint Stock Company... the city will draw parking lines on the sidewalk and lower the curb to create a parking lot. The cost of lowering the curb will be paid by these units.
