Labor inspection in the construction sector across 63 provinces and cities
-Today (March 21), the 2016 Labor Inspection Campaign will take place, with the theme of Compliance with Labor Laws for Safe Construction Works.
The campaign is organized by the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs with the support of the International Labor Organization (ILO). This year's campaign focuses on the construction sector in 63 provinces and cities across the country.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Tung, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs: “In 2015, the Labor Inspection Campaign was piloted in the garment sector in 12 provinces and cities across the country. The results showed that implementing the labor inspection campaign in each sector is completely suitable for the current context”.

The 2016 construction labor inspection campaign aims to: Improve compliance with regulations and standards on labor safety, hygiene, and benefits for workers; thereby, improve working conditions, reduce work accidents; enhance knowledge of employers and workers about the role of labor inspection at the central and local levels.
In addition, expand the scope of influence of the labor inspection system on labor law compliance at enterprises and construction sites; Grasp the actual situation of labor law application and shortcomings and loopholes in mechanisms and policies to recommend to competent state agencies to apply remedial measures.
The campaign will include three parts: Propaganda activities; inspection activities at enterprises and monitoring and summary activities. In particular, inspection activities at construction sites and enterprises that are contractors of construction works will aim to grasp the practical situation, guide enterprises, implement measures to rectify compliance at the workplace and handle serious violations that cause unsafety and labor hygiene.
After that, the Ministry Inspectorate will summarize, coordinate with tripartite partners to closely monitor the campaign implementation process in localities and preside over the summary and experience drawing after the campaign ends. The implementation of the inspection campaign will take place from March to November 2016.
According to assessments, Hanoi is one of the localities with a high number of occupational accidents in the country, so the issue of occupational safety management is an urgent issue, especially in the fields of construction, transportation and electricity.
According to preliminary statistics from the Hanoi Labor Federation, in 2015, there were 23 serious work accidents in the city, killing 25 people.
In 2014, Hanoi was still one of the localities with the highest number of work-related accidents in the country (132 cases); of which there were 33 serious work-related accidents that killed 34 people and seriously injured 4 people./.
