(Baonghean.vn) - Car gear stuck is a fairly common phenomenon on old cars - this is not a very serious problem, but it poses many dangers to you when driving on the road. So what is the cause of the car getting stuck in gear?

1.Stuck in N gear

If the gear lever is stuck in N (neutral), the first step is to restart the engine and accelerate the car by pressing the gear lever into 1st gear... At that time, the transmission will refuse, but the pressure on the gear lever creates friction between the synchronizing gear and the rotating gear, causing the car to move slowly. When the car speed is enough to match the speed required for 1st gear, the gear lever will slide in and the car will run normally.

When the car is running in 1st gear, press the accelerator pedal hard and release, you can pull the gear lever to N and push the gear lever into the 2nd gear slot but do not press hard. Wait until the engine slows down corresponding to the 2nd gear ratio transmission speed, the gear lever will automatically slide into the 2nd gear slot.

2. Stuck in P gear

Stuck P gear is common in old cars; when the car is stuck in P gear, it will be difficult to start and cannot shift gears. This makes the gear lever stiff, you have to exert effort to step on the gas pedal for the gear lever to slowly shift into reverse (R)... The cause is that the gear lever pin is broken, misaligned causing the gear cable to get stuck; Or it could be that the car has a broken one-way clutch, or the turbine blade inside the gearbox torque converter is broken.

In these two cases, you must check the car immediately; if the gear stick is broken or the cable is damaged, replace the cable. If the turbine is broken, you must replace the entire gearbox.

3.Temporary stuck gear, difficult to shift

When the vehicle is used too much in a day, it is easy to encounter a situation where it is difficult to change gears, difficult to shift gears and makes it screech. The reason for this situation is because the clutch has not been completely disengaged... In this case, check the vehicle for brake fluid leaks, if so, increase the clutch for the vehicle; If you feel the vehicle vibrating and having difficulty shifting gears, you should use 2 clutches (ie 1 gear, 0 throttle).

There are many other reasons why a car is difficult to shift gears. It could be due to worn out clutch pads and “outdated” pressure plates. At this point, you need to take the car to a professional repair shop to replace the necessary parts.

* Causes of gearbox failure

- Lack of oil:If the gearbox oil is not changed regularly, the moving parts in the gearbox will get hot, causing friction, burning the oil and causing the oil valve to not work properly.

- Dirty oil:Not changing the oil for too long will cause the oil to become dirty because the gearbox produces metal particles. These metal particles mix with the oil and clog the valves and oil lines to the disc set.

- Using the wrong type of oil:Each car model and manufacturer can use different types of oil with different standards; in particular, newer cars have more stringent oil requirements. Using the wrong type of oil can easily damage the car's gearbox.
