Burning too much incense, the temple caught fire

(Baonghean.vn)- On February 10, Nghe An police investigation agency is coordinating with police, officials of the Ministry of Culture and Information and conservation officers of Quynh district to investigate the cause of the fire at Ho Sy Duong temple in Quynh Doi village (Quynh Luu, Nghe An).

Before that, at around 3pm on February 9, many people in Quynh Doi village were burning incense at Ho Sy Duong temple when they discovered smoke coming from behind. Everyone shouted and beat the village drum to call each other to put out the fire. However, because the fire started from behind and had been smoldering since before, when discovered, the main temple inside had already been burned to the ground.

The initial cause was determined to be due to many people coming to burn incense, the incense sticks caught fire and spread to other places.

Mr. Ho Si Duong (1621 - 1681) was a mandarin of the Later Le Dynasty in Vietnamese history, from Quynh Doi village, Quynh Luu district. He was the distant nephew of Mr. Ho Tong Thoc. He was the first three times to win the imperial examinations, the first time when he was 23 years old.

In 1652, he passed the doctoral exam. In 1659, he was fortunate to pass the Dong Cac exam. He was re-appointed to the position of Dong Cac Grand Scholar, and was sent to negotiate border disputes five times, winning all of them. After that, he was promoted to the position of General of the Ministry of War.

In 1673, he was appointed as the main envoy to China. In 1676, he became Tham Tung, concurrently Minister of Public Works. In the same year, he was assigned to supervise the revision of national history, Minister of Justice, and Grand Scholar of the Eastern Cac. Later, he was promoted to Minister of Rites. He was highly regarded by people at home and abroad.

In 1681, he died at the age of 61 and was awarded the title of Thieu Bao Duye Quan Cong.

To commemorate his merits, his descendants built a temple to this day.

It is known that Ho Sy Duong Temple was recognized as a national historical relic on January 24, 2016, and has just been renovated and inaugurated with construction costs from many sources of contributions of more than 200 million VND./.
