(Baonghean.vn)After more than 2 years of launching the movement "Warm houses for the poor in border and island areas" initiated by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Border Guard Command and the People's Army Newspaper, nearly 200 houses have been handed over to the people. The program not only helps the poor escape from temporary and leaky houses but also acts as a new wind to inspire solidarity, overcome difficulties, be diligent and creative in production and labor to escape poverty.

Implementing Plan No. 1783 dated October 21, 2008 of the Border Guard Command and Inter-sectoral Instruction No. 1838 dated October 27, 2008 of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Border Guard Command on implementing the movement "Warm homes for the poor in border and island areas", the Border Guard Command of Nghe An province; The Standing Committee of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee proposed the policy and was highly agreed by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee to draw from the local "Fund for the Poor" support fund. At the same time, mobilize officers, soldiers, workers and employees of the Provincial Border Guard, agencies, units, enterprises inside and outside the province to support additional funding for the implementation of "building houses for the poor in border and coastal areas". Therefore, the movement was implemented with a high sense of responsibility and enthusiasm, so far nearly 200 houses have been handed over to the poor.

Officers and soldiers of Border Guard Station 551 build solidarity houses for poor households in the commune.
Tam Hop (Tuong Duong district)

To ensure progress, the Border Guard and the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee coordinated to direct the Party Committees and commanders of the Border Guard stations on the two border and coastal lines to survey poor households without houses or dilapidated temporary houses, focusing on prioritizing families with preferential policies, and holding meetings to consider and vote. At the same time, establish a carpentry team, mobilize all resources, materials... to build houses for people.

Mr. Vu Tong Long's family in Huoi Son village, Tam Hop commune (Tuong Duong) previously did not have a decent house to live in, so they lacked stability to build their lives and often migrated. Since living in a new house, their joy has doubled. He and his wife and children have raised large livestock, reclaimed land for rice cultivation, and grown the region's strengths such as taro and squash. Now his family is a typical example of economic development in the commune.

Mr. Long said: "Without the help of the superiors, especially the Border Guard, even when we are "old", we cannot build a house to live in". Along with Mr. Long is the family of Mr. Xong Ba Anh (30 years old), also in Huoi Son village. After having a new house, he not only works hard in production but also volunteers to encourage people to live in solidarity, not to migrate freely, not to rely on superiors, and to work hard. "Shelter for the poor in border and island areas" has really had a great impact on the spiritual life of people in Huoi Son village. From a poor village, not knowing how to grow rice and raise buffaloes and cows... up to now, Huoi Son has reclaimed over 10 hectares of rice fields, the whole village raises nearly 200 buffaloes and cows, raises chickens, grows taro, squash... In particular, Mr. Xong Ba Anh was elected as deputy of the village.

Mr. Tran Minh Cong - Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard said: "Shelter for the poor in border and island areas" not only helps poor families have solid houses but also helps people change their awareness, live in solidarity, and voluntarily rise out of poverty. During the time of implementing the house building, the Border Guard helped people know how to apply science to production, livestock, and cultivation, launched a movement to raise caged fish, ducks, buffaloes, and cows, and grow specialties... Besides, there is the attention of all levels and sectors, especially the leadership role of the Fatherland Front and local Party Committees, authorities, and forces stationed in the area...

Changes in the border and islands have been brought about by many programs, including the significant impact of "Shelter for the poor in the border and islands". The results of the program have contributed to strengthening the trust of the masses in the Party committees, the government, the Fatherland Front, organizations and especially the Border Guard force. From there, it has contributed to building a stronger and more solid position of people's hearts in the border and coastal areas.
