The unnamed heir discovered gold hidden in various places in the house, including under piles of linen and in the bathroom.
"There are 5,000 gold pieces, two gold bars weighing 12 kg and 37 gold bars weighing 1 kg," AFP quoted auctioneer Nicolas Fierfort as saying today. The total value of this treasure is 3.7 million USD.
Fierfort said he visited the house in Evreux, Normandy, to assess the gold the heir wanted to sell. He said he saw all the gold, which was "extremely well hidden". The coins and bars were only discovered when the new owner moved the furniture.
First, the homeowner found a tin box of gold coins bolted to the underside of some furniture. More coins were hidden in a whiskey bottle box. Finally, the homeowner discovered more gold bars and gold nuggets in other parts of the house.
The deceased's certificate shows that this is legal gold, purchased in the 1950s and 1960s./.
