Dear 10th grade students of Dien Chau 2 High School.

The 2017-2018 school year is approaching, I would like to say a few words before you choose a class that suits your abilities, interests and other conditions in order to have a good future, while not creating pressure for you in your studies.

In the past, everyone wanted to study in a selective class to study, have many opportunities to strive, practice and succeed. Now that thinking needs to change to suit the development of society. In fact, in our school and the schools I know, the number of successful students is not necessarily those who study in selective classes, many students study in normal classes but are very successful in life. The question for students and parents is which class is suitable. To answer this question, students will need to answer the following questions:

1. How is your academic performance?

2. What subjects are you good at (natural sciences; social sciences; foreign languages)?

3. What are your talents (painting, music, dancing, visual arts, ....)?

4. What are your abilities (creative thinking, manual dexterity, eloquence, management, ...)?

5. What are your career interests (science and technology, social sciences, life sciences, economics, politics, culture and arts, sports, ...)?

When answering the above questions, I have some suggestions for you and your parents to refer to, just for reference.

- You should choose a class that suits your academic ability (excellent, good, average). You should not choose a class that is too difficult for you or choose a class that is too easy, both of these situations will reduce your motivation to study.

- Depending on their learning ability, students can choose to study in classes oriented towards developing natural sciences, social sciences, foreign languages, and basic classes.

- For those with artistic aptitude, it does not entirely depend on ability and ability to learn the subject.

- For creative thinking, manual dexterity, public speaking, management, etc., choosing competency-oriented classes will be a good foundation for the future.

- Choosing an orientation class that matches your personal interests in a career will be a good motivation for learning, creating a passion for learning.

I wish you all good study, be good and choose the right ability - interest for yourself.

Although it was only posted a day ago, the principal’s article has received many comments from parents and students. Most of them agree with the principal’s views on choosing a school and class: “The principal’s article is meaningful and profound, very necessary for students and parents to refer to and guide them right from when they enter grade 10.”

Another opinion said: "Although this viewpoint goes against the thinking of many families, it is very timely and suitable for current practical conditions." There was even a student who, after reading the teacher's article, realized that: "After reading the teacher's article, I realized that I am not qualified to study in the gifted class."

Following Mr. Phan Trong Dong's opinion, some other teachers also shared and commented to guide students when choosing a school: "You should choose and study what you like, what suits your strengths, you don't need to study what teachers and parents need."

Sharing the reason for posting this article, teacher Phan Trong Dong also said: Currently, due to the pressure of achievement, many parents want their children to enter specialized schools and selective classes, and that also causes many difficulties for schools during each admission season.

However, this is not entirely true and can be counterproductive if the students' abilities are limited. Therefore, before the students register for grade 10, I share this article in the hope that it will help parents and students have a more practical view. Thereby, not only creating motivation for students to study throughout the 3 years of high school, but also gradually helping them orient their careers, choosing a career that suits their abilities and interests.
