The 0-3 loss to Chainat on April 3 caused Muangthong to fall to second from last in the Thai League 2019 scoreboard after six rounds.

Despite changing the coach in the middle of the week, Muangthong United could not "change their luck". The 0-3 defeat at Chainat Stadium was the fourth and heaviest defeat in the first six rounds of the season for Van Lam and his teammates. In all three goals conceded, Van Lam did not make any direct mistakes.

In just the first 16 minutes, the away team conceded two goals after sloppy defense. Goalkeeper Van Lam stood still as Rrattanawong jumped high to head the ball through a series of Muangthong defenders, opening the score in the 13th minute. Three minutes later, the away team defender passed the ball straight to Ricardo Santos' feet. Chainat's foreign player made a simple pass for Kumpraya to beat Van Lam at the near post.

The two early goals left interim coach Uthai Boonmoh's team mentally strained for the rest of the match. The attack line with names like Aung Thu, Teerasil Dangda and Heberty only created few chances towards Chainat's goal.

The away team's hopes were completely dashed after Soukaphone Vongchiengkham's beautiful goal in the 70th minute. Receiving the ball from a distance of more than 20 meters, "Lao Messi" unleashed a powerful long-range shot, defeating Van Lam and setting the score at 3-0.

This is Muangthong's second consecutive defeat in the Thai League. The 0-2 loss to Ratchaburi in the previous round forced Pairoj Borwonwatanadilok to resign, while this round's defeat pushed Muangthong to second from last (15th) in the Thai League table, with six points from six matches. The team that just beat them, Chainat, moved up from the bottom of the table to 11th, also with six points.
