Indonesia's Kompas TV said the search team had found the black box of the Boeing 737 MAX 8, a major step in finding out what caused the plane to crash. Indonesia is the fastest-growing market in Southeast Asia, home to one of the fastest-growing airlines and the region's largest passenger base, with nearly 100 million passengers flying in 2017. Mrs. Merkel gives up her party leadership after 18 years in power:Chancellor Angela Merkel has told her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party leaders that she will not run again for the post of party chair. The next CDU congress is due in early December 2018. Speaking after the CDU's disappointing results in elections in the states of Hesse and Bavaria, Merkel said: "It is time to open a new chapter." Merkel has been chair of the CDU since 2000. Her resignation could trigger an internal party race to find her successor as German chancellor.

Bà Merkel

Merkel made the surprise decision after her conservative coalition suffered consecutive setbacks in two state parliamentary elections last week. On October 28, the CDU lost 10% of voter support in the state of Hesse. Previously, the CDU's "sister" party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), suffered similar losses in its home state of Bavaria.
