South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he had a sleepless night last night ahead of the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un taking place in Singapore.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, President Moon expressed hope that the summit would be a success, opening a "new chapter".
"The US-North Korea summit has just begun, and I believe that all North Koreans, as well as South Koreans, are looking forward to the developments in Singapore," President Moon shared.
President Moon has been described as the "architect" behind the breakthroughs in diplomatic relations with North Korea. Since becoming President of South Korea in 2016, Mr. Moon has always pursued a foreign policy that supports peaceful relations with Pyongyang.
And Mr. Moon was also the one who made great contributions in laying the first foundation and promoting the US-North Korea summit.

Meanwhile, Japanese Defense Minister Itunori Onodara said that Tokyo will remain "vigilant" towards Pyongyang until North Korea takes steps to demonstrate that it is abandoning missile and nuclear activities.
UN Secretary-General: The way forward requires close cooperation
