In recent days, the number of daily cases has shown signs of slowing down globally, with the hottest epidemic areas in Asia and Europe, while the number of deaths has also tended to decrease.

The situation in many Asian and European countries remains worrying with the outbreak of the extremely dangerous Delta virus variant. In particular, the number of new cases in the US, India, Iran, the UK and Brazil remains alarmingly high. The US has returned to the position of the country with the highest number of new cases and deaths per day in the world.

In China,China National Biotechnology Group (CNBG), a vaccine maker and a subsidiary of China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm), said it has received clinical trial approval for a Covid-19 treatment drug based on human immunoglobulin (also known as antibody) developed from the plasma of recovered Covid-19 patients. Experts say the drug will be effective in treating critically ill patients.

The drug was unveiled at the 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). CNBG said in a statement on September 3 that it had received approval for clinical trials on August 30. In addition to the new drug, CNBG also displayed six other anti-epidemic products, including two updated vaccines that are effective against mutations and one monoclonal antibody-based treatment.

According to CNBG, the new drug contains neutralizing antibodies. However, CNBG did not disclose where and when clinical trials will begin.

CNBG has been producing plasma products made from donated plasma from recovered patients since early 2020, and this is said to be an effective treatment for Covid-19 patients in serious condition.

Chinese experts also bring these products to treat local patients when they go to support foreign countries, such as Italy.

In Australia,Prime Minister Scott Morrison affirmed that the current Covid-19 epidemic cannot be completely eradicated and people can travel freely after the country achieves its vaccination target.

The Australian leader said that people can plan to celebrate Christmas 2021 with their loved ones because at the current vaccination rate, the country can complete the goal of vaccinating 70% of the population by the end of October or early November. Due to the lack of vaccine supply, so far, only 37% of Australians have been vaccinated.

The federal government is now looking to buy more vaccines to accelerate the vaccination drive in the coming months. Australia is still imposing lockdowns in states and territories to control the spread of the Delta variant until at least 70% of people aged 16 and over have been vaccinated.

Under this plan, Australia will gradually reopen its international borders, which have been closed since March 2020, when the vaccination rate reaches over 80%. On September 5, Australia announced the discovery of 1,485 new cases in the community in the state of New South Wales, while the state of Victoria had 183 new cases in the community.

In neighboring New Zealand, officials reported 20 community infections in the epicentre of the outbreak in Auckland - the country's largest city. Although the number of new infections has decreased in the past week, New Zealand health officials warn that extreme vigilance is needed to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

The New Zealand government is expected to consider imposing nationwide restrictions on September 6 to fully control the epidemic. Auckland is still under a complete lockdown until September 13.

In Europe, Russiarecorded 18,645 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 7,012,599. In addition, Russia also recorded 793 more deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths here to 187,200. A day earlier, Russia recorded 796 cases, the highest in the world on September 4.

According to separate data from Russia's state statistics agency Rosstat, from April 2020 to July 2021 alone, the country recorded up to 365,000 deaths from Covid-19 or causes related to Covid-19.

According to statistics from worldometers.info, as of 23:59 on September 5, countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) recorded 75,341 more cases of Covid-19 compared to the previous day, while the total number of deaths increased to over 232,000.

In the past 24 hours,ASEAN AssociationUp to 6 member countries recorded new deaths due to Covid-19: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Southeast Asia continues to be the hottest epidemic spot in Asia.

The worst outbreak in Southeast Asia remains Indonesia, where the pandemic has been raging for months. However, in the past few days, this hotspot has continued to show signs of cooling down, as the number of cases and deaths has begun to decline rapidly.

Meanwhile, the epidemic situation in the Philippines has remained serious in recent days. In the past day, the country recorded a high number of deaths and the second highest number of new cases in the region.

MalaysiaThe epidemic situation is increasingly worrying. This country is currently the second hottest epidemic spot in the region after Indonesia, when the new wave of the epidemic has lasted and shows no signs of cooling down. Malaysia is witnessing an escalating epidemic trend due to the rapid and strong increase in the number of new cases/day in the past few weeks, while the number of deaths from Covid-19 is also at an alarming level. The number of new cases has continuously set sad records in Malaysia and is the highest in ASEAN in the past 24 hours.

On September 5, the number of deaths due to the epidemic in Malaysia was also at an alarming level with 336 deaths (ranked second in ASEAN). In the face of a new dangerous wave of the epidemic, the Malaysian Government continued to extend the nationwide lockdown in the hope of reversing the epidemic curve.

According to the website worldometers.info, Myanmar has not released any data in the past 24 hours. The COVID-19 situation in this country was also alarming a few days ago.

Thailandis also a new epidemic hotspot as the number of community infections has increased sharply in recent weeks, forcing the country to decide to tighten epidemic prevention measures in many provinces and postpone the opening date for tourism. On September 5, the "Land of the Jade Buddha" recorded more than 15,000 new cases, while the number of deaths was 224, the same level as the previous days.

CambodiaThe epidemic continues to cool down when the country only had 461 new patients and 7 deaths in the past day. Cambodia is gradually passing the peak and the number of new cases and deaths due to Covid-19 in this country is continuing to decrease. In the new situation, Cambodia is considering relaxing social distancing.

Specifically, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has so far claimed the lives of a total of 232,080 people in Southeast Asia, an increase of 1,413 cases compared to the previous day. Meanwhile, the number of cases has increased to over 10.4 million. In addition, the ASEAN region has also witnessed the number of patients successfully treated at over 9.2 million cases.
