1. Türkiye fires artillery in Syria
Since February 13, the Turkish military has deployed artillery batteries to the border area and launched massive airstrikes on towns in northern Syria. Ankara officials have claimed that the attacks were in response to Kurdish gunmen firing at Turkish targets, but the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) have denied the accusations.

2. ASEAN-US Summit issued the "Sunnylands Declaration"
On the afternoon of February 16 (early morning of February 17, Vietnam time), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - United States Summit held from February 15-16 in Sunnylands (California, USA) issued the Sunnylands Declaration. This Special ASEAN - United States Leaders' Meeting was held for the first time in the US and was also the first summit to take place after the ASEAN Community was formed at the end of 2015.

3. US, Japan adopt new sanctions against North Korea
On February 18, US President Barack Obama signed into law a bill to strengthen sanctions against North Korea after the country conducted nuclear tests and launched a long-range ballistic missile carrying a satellite, causing concern in the international community.
Then, on February 19, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also approved new sanctions against North Korea, including banning third-country ships from entering Japan after passing through North Korean ports and banning the transfer of goods or money to North Korea.

4. China confirms that it has brought weapons to Hoang Sa
On February 18, China confirmed that it had brought weapons to Phu Lam Island in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago in the East Sea, seriously violating Vietnam’s sovereignty as well as international law. Vietnam immediately voiced strong opposition and considered this an act of violation of territorial sovereignty. Many countries around the world also expressed concern about this move from China.

5. Terrorist bombing in Türkiye, nearly 90 casualties
A bomb attack on a military convoy in the Turkish capital Ankara on February 17 killed at least 28 people and injured 61. The attack has damaged efforts by many EU countries to curb the flow of refugees to the continent, with a planned meeting ahead of the EU summit being cancelled.

6. European Union (EU) agrees on deal to keep Britain in
Taking place on February 18 and 19 in Brussels, the EU Summit is considered the most intense with two hot topics: immigration and the UK's requests on whether the UK will leave or stay in the EU. European Council President Donald Tusk announced on February 19 that the agreement to keep the UK in the EU has received the support of all 28 leaders of member states.
