Dozens more people hospitalized suspected of food poisoning after eating bread in Dien Chau.

As of the afternoon of April 20th, Dien Chau General Hospital had admitted 62 people suspected of food poisoning, 57 of whom reported having eaten bread purchased from Quynh bakery.

On the afternoon of April 20th, Mr. Ho Ngoc Thai, Director of Dien Chau General Hospital, stated that as of now, 62 people have been brought to the hospital for treatment with symptoms suspected of food poisoning. Of these, 5 patients have just been discharged, and the remaining cases are in stable condition; no severe cases have been recorded.

According to Mr. Thai, after questioning the patients, out of a total of 62 people, 57 reported having consumed bread from one of two shops: Quynh Bakery (Block 4, Dien Chau Commune - formerly displaying the sign "Son Quynh Hot Bread Shop") and Quynh Bread Shop (Trung Hong Hamlet, Dien Chau Commune). The remaining 5 patients did not eat the bread but were all hospitalized with symptoms of vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and high fever, suspected to be food poisoning.

Previously, from the morning of April 17th to the morning of April 18th, Dien Chau General Hospital received dozens of patients with similar symptoms. Most of them reported having eaten bread from one of the two aforementioned establishments. The patients were treated in various departments, including 19 cases in the Infectious Diseases Department, 3 cases in the Internal Medicine Department, 1 case in the Obstetrics Department, and 5 cases in the Pediatrics Department. On April 19th and until noon on April 20th, the hospital admitted an additional 34 patients, all showing signs of suspected food poisoning; it was determined that the majority of these patients had consumed bread from the two establishments.

In order to promptly organize emergency response, treatment, and control of the incident, the Department of Health hasthere is a written requestThe People's Committees of Dien Chau, An Chau, Hai Chau, Duc Chau, and Tan Chau communes are directing their respective blocks, hamlets, and local broadcasting systems to urgently disseminate information to residents who purchased or consumed sandwiches on April 16th and 17th at Quynh sandwich shop, located in Trung Hong hamlet, Dien Chau commune, and Block 4, Dien Chau commune, Nghe An province. They are urged to proactively monitor their health and immediately go to the nearest medical facilities if they experience symptoms of food poisoning such as: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, etc.

The Department also requested that communes establish food safety inspection and monitoring teams in their areas; strengthen unannounced inspections of street food businesses, focusing on establishments producing, processing, and selling bread in the area. Strictly handle violations of food safety regulations as prescribed by law; publicly disclose cases of violations to warn the community, require violating establishments to immediately rectify shortcomings; and suspend operations for establishments posing a high risk of food safety violations.
