Compared to other crops, growing ginger in bags has many advantages. Farmers can take advantage of empty spaces in the garden, and use agricultural by-products such as rice husks, manure, etc.

To implement this model, Vietnam Agricultural Products Export Joint Stock Company will provide technical support as well as lend farmers 50% of the cost; at the same time, guarantee the output of products for farmers, with a purchase price of 18 thousand/kg within 5 years.

This is the first time Nghia Dan farmers have grown ginger in bags on a large scale. The coordination between the government, people and businesses in planting, caring for and guaranteeing output has created trust, helping farmers feel secure in their investment. If it is highly effective, Nghia Dan will replicate this model.

Farmers should plant ginger from early spring, however, to harvest ginger for Tet holiday, ginger should be planted in April-May. Ginger can be harvested at the end of the year, around October-November-December every year.

The growth period of ginger is from 8-10 months depending on the variety. Currently, there are many varieties of ginger grown such as: buffalo ginger or ginger, hybrid ginger... However, the commonly grown varieties are buffalo ginger, large tubers, less fibrous, less spicy, suitable for export; ginger is commonly grown, has smaller tubers, is spicier and more fibrous, and is currently being sold a lot in the domestic market.

Ginger seeds are collected immediately after harvest or after being stored for a short time. One kilogram of ginger seeds can be grown for about 20 bags (150 kg/sao planted on land). Old ginger should be selected for planting at least 9 months old.
