(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 22nd, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, held a working session with the Provincial Farmers' Association.

Also attending the meeting were representatives from the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, the Border Guard Command, and several provincial departments and agencies.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong chaired the meeting.

In 2014, the work of building and strengthening the organization of the Farmers' Association continued to receive attention from all levels of the Association. Farmers' Associations from the provincial to the grassroots level actively implemented many emulation movements, especially the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and achieve sustainable poverty reduction, linked with many effective new economic models, creating a widespread impact.

Comrade Nguyen Huu Nhi - Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association - reported on the Association's activities.

During the year, the Farmers' Association at all levels developed and replicated 278 models of livestock farming, crop cultivation, and some traditional local crafts; helping 467 farming households escape poverty. The Provincial Farmers' Association also honored 121 outstanding farming households excelling in production and business.

Comrade Ho Ngoc Sy - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, delivered a speech affirming the role of farmers' associations in the development of agricultural economy.

Particularly in the movement to build new rural areas, the Farmers' Association at all levels has mobilized farmers to voluntarily donate 1,230,000 square meters of rice paddies and garden land; contribute 3.6 million man-days of labor and over 4,000 billion VND to build infrastructure such as transportation, irrigation, cultural and educational facilities... Through this, it has contributed to accelerating the implementation of the National Target Program for building new rural areas. The association's activities from the provincial to the grassroots level have been very active, widespread, and in-depth.

Comrade Le Van Cam, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department, delivered a speech suggesting some directions for the development of the farmers' movement in the coming period.

During the meeting, representatives from various departments and agencies expressed their opinions, clarifying some of the achievements of the Farmers' Association at all levels and highlighting some limitations, especially in promoting the initiative and dynamism of the peasant class.

Comrade Pham Van Vinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment - contributed his opinions at the working session.

The delegates also suggested directions to enhance the core role of the Farmers' Association from the provincial to the grassroots level in agricultural, rural, and farmer movements in the coming period.

Comrade Vo Van Ngoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, spoke about the coordination between the Farmers' Association and the government at all levels in the land consolidation and exchange work.

Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong acknowledged the achievements of the Farmers' Association and farmers' movements from the provincial to the grassroots level in the past period, making important contributions to building a strong Party, government, and Farmers' Association; promoting socio-economic development and maintaining security and national defense in the province.At the provincial meeting, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: 2015 is the final year of the five-year socio-economic development plan (2011-2015); the year of preparation for the Party Congress at all levels; and the year of continuing to implement Resolution 26 of the Politburo on Nghe An. Therefore, the task is to continue to innovate the working methods of the Farmers' Association at all levels in a way that is effective and focuses on specific tasks. It is also necessary to coordinate and effectively carry out propaganda work, launch emulation movements in production, legitimate wealth creation, sustainable poverty eradication, and implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws.

The immediate priority is to mobilize farmers to focus on spring crop production and disease prevention for crops and livestock. The Provincial Farmers' Association also needs to guide farmers' associations at all levels to exploit their local potential for economic development; closely monitor practical situations, and then propose mechanisms and policies for farmers to the province, contributing to rural development and improving the material and spiritual lives of farmers. It should promote consulting services, vocational training, and the application of science and technology to increase production value and income for farmers. It should coordinate with all levels and sectors to monitor the quality of agricultural services such as fertilizers, seeds, and animal feed, protecting the rights of farmers; and actively participate in maintaining environmental hygiene and preventing social evils in rural areas.

Provincial People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Xuan Duong also acknowledged some of the Farmers' Association's proposals and assigned a department or agency to coordinate with the Provincial Farmers' Association to resolve some difficulties and obstacles.
