For more than two weeks, Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic leadership claimed that the journalist had left the consulate. On Saturday evening, Saudi media released a message from the country’s attorney general that Khashoggi was dead, citing an argument between him and consulate staff.
Eighteen people have been arrested in connection with the case. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, commenting on the Khashoggi case, said the criminals had "exceeded their authority."
