National High School Exam to be maintained until 2020

Professor Nguyen Minh Thuyet, Editor-in-Chief of the general education program, said that a roadmap for innovation in high school graduation is being developed, however, from now until 2020, the national high school exam will still be maintained.

At the press conference announcing the draft of the Comprehensive General Education Program on April 12, Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Minh Thuyet said that the project team is working with the Department of Secondary Education (Ministry of Education and Training) to develop a roadmap for innovation in high school graduation when the new comprehensive program is implemented. "However, the Minister of Education has affirmed that from now until 2020, the national high school exam format will be kept stable with the goal of considering graduation and university and college admissions," Mr. Thuyet emphasized.

According to the draftComprehensive general education program, hStudents who complete the subjects and accumulate enough assessment results according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education will be awarded a high school diploma. The assessment is carried out in qualitative and quantitative forms, throughregular and periodic assessments at educational institutions, large-scale assessments at national, local and international levels.

Regular assessments are organized by subject teachers;periodic assessment organized by educational institutions.Large-scale assessment at national and local levels is organized by national or provincial quality inspection units.

The national high school exam, which is used to recognize high school graduation and consider university and college admissions, began in 2015. Mr. Pham Vu Luan, the then Minister of Education and Training, affirmed that the exam would last until at least 2021.

"According to the National Assembly's decision, the new textbook program will be implemented in the 2018-2019 school year. The fastest number of students entering university under this program will be in 2021. Thus, the current national high school exam regulations will be stable until 2021," said Mr. Luan.
