Cau Giat town (Quynh Luu district) has been recognized as a type V urban area.

Cau Giat town has a total natural area of ​​289.36 hectares; it is traversed by National Highway 1A, National Highway 48B, and the North-South railway, making it very favorable for socio-economic development.

On May 12, 2010, the Government issued Resolution No. 24/NQ-CP on adjusting and expanding the administrative boundaries of the town. Cau Giat town merged with 4 hamlets of Quynh My commune to form new blocks 9, 10, 11, and 12. Over the 80 years of its formation and development, the town has grown from 3 hamlets with over 100 households and more than 1,000 inhabitants to 12 blocks with over 11,000 inhabitants today.

The town's economy has consistently maintained a relatively high growth rate; the average growth rate during the 2010-2015 period reached 12%. Evaluating the mid-term results, the 20th Town Party Congress, from 2015-2017, showed an average economic growth rate of 13.83%; the economic structure shifted in a positive direction, with small-scale industries and construction accounting for 20.84%; services 78.04%; and agriculture decreasing to only 1.12%.

Average income reached 55.82 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate decreased from 2.3% in 2015 to 1.2% in 2017.

Infrastructure has been developed on a larger scale, with many projects being built in the area, such as the expansion and upgrading of National Highway 1A and National Highway 48B, and the lighting system on National Highway 1A... A new urban landscape has clearly taken shape.

On October 1, 2018, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 4373 recognizing Cau Giat town, Quynh Luu district, as a type V urban area.
