Competition for selecting the design of state ceremonial attire.
On the morning of August 1st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially launched the "Selection of State Ceremonial Attire Designs" competition in Hanoi.
The challenge for participants was to design four types of formal attire: a modern men's formal suit, a modern women's formal suit, a traditional men's formal suit, and a traditional women's formal suit.
These ceremonial attire sets include shoes, hats, and scarves (if necessary).

According to the organizers, individuals or organizations can submit multiple designs for each type of ceremonial attire.
Besides the requirements of cultural symbolism, contemporary relevance, and representation of Vietnamese national cultural identity, the submitted designs must also ensure aesthetic appeal, convenience, and suitability for national and international ceremonies.
The designs, whether hand-drawn or computer-generated, include: Front, back, and side views of the garment, shown on A3 white paper with accurate color representation.
The organizers encourage designs made with traditional, domestically produced materials.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “The competition aims to find a ceremonial costume to be used in national and international events, to honor and express national pride and preserve Vietnamese cultural identity, affirming the independent position of a nation with a long-standing civilization.”
Speaking to the press this morning, historian Duong Trung Quoc, Secretary General of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, expressed his view: “In my opinion, ceremonial attire should be designed in both modern and traditional styles, for convenience in different situations. For example, in traditional ceremonies such as the Hung Kings Commemoration Day or the presentation of credentials, leaders would wear traditional attire. However, on other important occasions such as welcoming politicians or attending international conferences, modern attire would be more appropriate.”
According to Mr. Duong Trung Quoc, the simultaneous use of two types of ceremonial attire (traditional and modern) is currently adopted by many countries around the world.
The deadline for submitting design entries is from October 1st to October 5th at the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions (38 Cao Ba Quat, Ba Dinh, Hanoi).
| The 20 finalist designs will be sewn into products and showcased. From there, the organizers will select four sets of designs to award the official prizes; these include: - A modern-style men's formal suit: 30 million VND. - A traditional men's formal suit: 30 million VND. - A modern-style women's formal dress: 30 million VND. - A traditional-style women's dress: 30 million VND |
