Cua Lo Town: Disaster response drill at sea

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 31st, at Cua Hoi Fishing Port (Nghi Hai Ward, Cua Lo Town), the Nghe An Fishing Port Management Board, the People's Committee of Cua Lo Town, the Border Guard, the Military Command, the Police of Cua Lo Town, along with other functional forces and fishermen, organized a drill to respond to complex natural disaster situations at sea. This was the first time such a drill had been held at Cua Hoi Fishing Port.

The hypothetical scenario is as follows: a fishing boat, returning to shore after fishing at sea, is capsized by strong waves and winds. Of the six fishermen on board, five are swept away by the waves, a life-threatening situation.

Upon receiving the information, the Nghe An Fishing Port Management Board, Cua Hoi Fishing Port, along with local authorities, border guards, and relevant agencies, immediately deployed rescue efforts for the fishing vessel and fishermen. Leaders of the Cua Lo Town Party Committee, People's Committee, border guards, police, and local authorities promptly arrived and coordinated with functional forces to command the rescue operation.

This hypothetical scenario is highly relevant to the complex situations faced by fishermen at sea and aligns with the resources and personnel available for rescue operations in the local area. Several fishing vessels and fishermen were mobilized for rescue operations; ambulances and medical staff from Cua Lo Town General Hospital were dispatched to provide first aid and transport the fishermen to the hospital for emergency treatment once they were brought ashore.

In fact, in recent years, several fishermen have died in the harbor area due to natural disasters, storms, and floods, some of which are very tragic and whose bodies have yet to be found. Therefore, the Port Management Board, along with local authorities and relevant agencies, organized this exercise to test the organizational and command capabilities of the on-site forces and to improve the coordinated operational capabilities between units and local authorities in the area when incidents occur involving fishermen at sea; and to raise fishermen's awareness of disaster prevention, search and rescue, especially as the 2015 rainy season is approaching.
