(Baonghean) - In 2002, the Cua Lo Town wastewater treatment system was started; with funding from the Kingdom of Belgium, the total investment in phase 1 was nearly 100 billion VND; of which 50 billion VND was used to purchase equipment. The preferential capital of Cua Lo Town was 48 billion VND for site clearance and equipment installation. The project is expected to be inaugurated and put into use in 2007.
During the construction of the project, in order to save on compensation and site clearance costs, the town combined the traffic infrastructure and wastewater systems running parallel to the roads. Due to financial difficulties, the progress of the traffic infrastructure construction was slower than planned. The slow traffic infrastructure also slowed down the wastewater collection and treatment project. That is why, after 11 years of construction, the wastewater treatment system in Cua Lo is still not completed.
Towards the 20th anniversary of its establishment, Cua Lo Town is urgently mobilizing all resources to speed up the construction progress. The project is divided into 2 phases, phase 1 will build a wastewater collection and treatment system from horizontal axis 1 to 12, vertical axis from Binh Minh street to vertical road 3. Phase 2 will be implemented from horizontal axis 13 to horizontal axis 22.
Phase 1 is divided into 2 packages: Package 1 is to build a wastewater pipeline with a total length of 54,200m, 5 pumping stations and 1,002 manholes. It is implemented by WASEENCO Water Supply and Drainage Company. Up to now, package 1 has reached over 85% of the volume. Currently, the contractor is focusing on constructing 2 pumping stations, the remaining stations are stations 1 and 5. Installing a D500 cast iron pipeline system from crossroad 4 to the treatment station with a length of 1,000m, installing 1,002 manhole covers. The construction unit is striving to complete in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
Package No. 2 is the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 3,700 m3 with a total investment of over 60 billion VND, constructed by Phu Dien Investment and Trading Company. This is a modern wastewater treatment plant using biological technology with circular activity. The equipment of the plant is sourced from the EU, Japan, and the United States. Currently, the construction unit is constructing the treatment tank, the operating house, and other auxiliary works. It is expected that the equipment will be installed in the first quarter of 2013 and put into operation at the end of the fourth quarter.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tien - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Town, the town is determined to strive to put the wastewater treatment system into use by the end of 2013. However, the town is currently facing difficulties in capital sources, specifically needing about 80 billion VND, of which 70 billion VND is for the construction of the wastewater treatment plant, 3 billion VND for site clearance to install D500 cast iron pipes into the treatment plant, 5 billion VND for the construction of the remaining 2 pumping stations... Due to difficulties in land auctions, the town does not have funding sources. The town hopes that the province will support the above amount to speed up the construction of the project.
