Lai Chau City has a population of 52,557 and 7 commune-level administrative units, including 5 wards (Quyet Thang, Quyet Tien, Doan Ket, Tan Phong, Dong Phong) and 2 communes (Nam Loong, San Thang).

After the establishment of Lai Chau city, Lai Chau province has a natural area of ​​906,880 hectares and a population of 414,140, ​​comprising 8 district-level administrative units including: Lai Chau city and the districts of Tam Duong, Phong Tho, Tan Uyen, Than Uyen, Sin Ho, Muong Te, and Nam Nhun, along with 108 commune and ward-level administrative units.
