The high-tech invention Kokoro Scanner, designed by a Tokyo-based toy company, is a lie detector device. Once attached to the forehead, the device monitors the user's heart rate to establish a baseline. When answering a question, the Kokoro Scanner monitors the heart rate again to compare it with the initial data.
A flashing blue light indicates that the wearer is telling the truth. A yellow light corresponds to the possibility of lying, and a red light confirms that the person is definitely lying. Because the Kokoro Scanner is worn on the head, the person being interviewed will not be able to see the colors being displayed.
The design inspiration for the Kokoro Scanner comes from the Japanese police's use of detectors to identify sex offenders. However, the manufacturer states that this product may only be relatively accurate.
