Major Nguyen Dong Canh died while chasing a drug-addicted thug.
On the afternoon of September 8, Colonel Vo Duy Tuan, Deputy Director and Head of the Dak Lak Provincial Police Department, confirmed that Major Nguyen Dong Canh, an officer of the Crime Prevention and Control Police Team of Xuan Loc Commune Police, had died while performing official duties.
On the morning of September 8, the Xuan Loc Commune Police Command sent a working group consisting of Major Nguyen Dong Canh, Captain Ho Tran Phuc, Senior Lieutenant Ta Quoc Luc, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Hai Luc and Captain Nguyen Tien Binh to carry out the task of searching for Nguyen Van Ty (born in 1995, residing in village 4, Xuan Loc commune, Dak Lak province) because on the evening of September 7, Ty intentionally caused injury to his sister-in-law, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ket (born in 1989, residing in the same house as Ty).

At around 10:30 a.m. on September 8, the task force approached Nguyen Van Ty's house when he escaped into the acacia forest in village 4, Xuan Loc commune. Determined to capture him, the task force split up to search for Ty's traces in the forest.
At 11:00 a.m. the same day, Captain Nguyen Tien Binh discovered that Major Nguyen Dong Canh had died from multiple stab wounds, suspected to have been carried out by Ty.

Immediately after receiving the information, Xuan Loc Commune Police urgently notified Xuan Canh Commune Police, Song Cau Ward Police and related forces to coordinate in hunting down the perpetrator.

Later, the police discovered Nguyen Van Ty had fled home and was hiding in the bathroom, showing signs of being high on drugs. The suspect held a knife and barricaded himself, so the police used pepper spray and rubber bullets to control him.
At 12:40 noon the same day, Nguyen Van Ty was arrested and taken to Xuan Loc Commune Police for further investigation and handling according to legal regulations.
