Planters in season
(Baonghean.vn) - From dawn, hired rice farmers have been going to the fields. Not only do they increase their income, their work also contributes to bumper harvests.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoi, village 8, Khai Son commune (Anh Son), has been working as a hired rice transplanter for many years and said: Most of us who work as hired rice transplanters are women. Many families have fields but have not had time to plant rice yet, so they take advantage of the opportunity to work as hired rice transplanters to earn a little extra money. My family is the same, we have 3 sao of rice fields, but we wait until they finish planting rice for them before returning home. Ms. Hoi is paid 200,000 VND per day for planting rice.

Every harvest season in Anh Son, there are hundreds of workers planting and plowing. |
In the field next door, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghi is also quickly finishing the last rows of rice. She said: Now many people want to rent, so there is no need to worry about unsold rice. When arriving, the owner and the workers agree on a price and go to the field right away. The work of planting for hire is quite hard because they have to bend their backs all day, soaking their hands and feet in mud, but in return, the wages are quite high at 200,000 VND/day, so the hired planters also have a decent amount of money to take care of their families...

The skillful, "professional" hands of the planters. |
Talking to Mr. Tran Duy Hung in Khai Son commune, a person looking for workers to plant rice said: his family has 6 sao of rice fields, last year it took about 3 days to pull out the rice seedlings and plant rice, but this year he has no workers so he had to hire workers to plant rice. With an area of 6 sao, he had to hire 4 people and plant rice for 2 days, calculating that after the crop, it cost about 1.6 million VND in wages, knowing that this amount is quite large compared to farmers, but still had to hire workers to keep up with the season.

Each day, the workers are paid 200,000 VND. However, the work is quite hard, requiring diligence and hard work. |
Another method that farmers often apply to keep up with the planting season is to exchange labor. That is, several households combine planting together. After finishing one house, they move on to another house until all the houses are finished. With this method, farmers do not have to pay for hiring and still keep up with the season.
In addition to the job of planting rice for hire, this season, people who work as hired plowmen also earn a decent income. This spring, Mr. Nguyen Trong An's family in Khai Son commune invested 150 million VND to buy a plow. It is the peak planting season so Mr. An's plow must work at full capacity. Each day, he works on about 3 sao, each sao is paid 200 thousand VND for labor. By the end of the season, Mr. An earns 40-50 million VND.
