German carpenter surprises with his invention of a "contraceptive valve".

A German carpenter has invented a new family planning method for men, using a tool that can regulate semen volume.

According to the German magazine Spiegel, Clemens Bimek claims to have found a way to attach a wooden valve to the male scrotum, allowing for control over the flow of semen.

"I consulted with many doctors, and most of them didn't think I was serious. But there were still some who encouraged me to pursue this idea and helped me."

To date, Bimek is the only person to have had this special valve implanted. The device, which he invented himself, is less than 1 inch (2.54 cm) long, weighs less than 1/10 ounce (2.8 g), and was placed in Bimek's vas deferens.

Hartwig Bauer, the urologist who performed the valve implantation surgery on Bimek, stated that the implant was a better option than vasectomy. However, Wolfgang Buhmann, a representative of the German Urological Association, disagreed with this assessment.

"In my assessment, implanting this valve could cause scarring of the vas deferens," he said. The scarring would block the flow of semen even when the valve is open, and the valve could become completely blocked if left in place.

Anneke Loos, director of the medical product testing center in Hannover, said that the valve developed by Bimek could be used for transplant surgery on other parts of the body. The only remaining question is whether the valve will cause any problems when implanted.

This special valve will be implanted in 25 men participating in a trial, starting earlier this year.
