Large fishing boat 'beautifier'

(Baonghean.vn) - Thanks to the team that repairs and refurbishes engines on boats, many fishermen in Quynh Luu are always able to stay at sea and go offshore to exploit valuable seafood.

With more than 10 years of experience in repairing engines and machinery of ships, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhien (Hamlet 10, Son Hai) is increasingly known by many fishermen in Quynh Luu for his high skills. The team of workers in Mr. Nhien's workshop always tries to repair the damaged fishing boats in a short time so that the fishermen can soon go out to sea to fish.

"Due to the increasing demand of fishermen for the conversion and construction of new boats, machinery and engines on boats are always upgraded and regularly maintained. Therefore, every month our facility receives dozens of large-capacity ship engines from 400 CV or more for repair. For newly assembled ship engines, it takes about 3 days; but for engines damaged during operations at sea, the repair time is longer" - Anh Nhien said.

Due to operations and exploitation at sea, equipment and machinery on ships often rust and break down; when returning to port, vehicle owners always try to bring the equipment ashore for repair.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, a fishing boat owner in Quynh Long commune, if there is no boat repair team in the area, they have to send the boat engine to other provinces for repair, which is both time-consuming and delays sea trips. Currently, in the coastal communes of Quynh Luu, there are facilities specializing in repairing boat engines, so fishermen can stay at sea with peace of mind.

Sharing about the ship engine repair profession, Mr. Tran Van Long - who has 20 years of experience in the profession, said that in the past, he mainly repaired small engines from 90 -110CV; in the past 4 years, he has also repaired engines from 400CV and above.

In addition to repairing motorboats, Mr. Long’s facility also installs engine structures for newly built ships. Depending on the ship owner, if the engine is newly assembled on a “huge” ship, it will cost more than 1 billion VND; if the engine is assembled and refurbished, it will cost about 600 - 700 million VND.

Quynh Luu has a large number of boats with 1,275, of which about 600 have a capacity of over 90CV. To meet the demand for boat repair when there is a breakdown, in the communes of Tien Thuy, Son Hai, Quynh Long... there are over 20 establishments. Most of the above establishments have a team of skilled workers with many years of experience, so they can meet the needs of fishermen in the district.
