Professionals 'beautify' large fishing vessels.

(Baonghean.vn) - Thanks to the team repairing and refurbishing engines on fishing boats, many fishermen in Quynh Luu are always able to stay at sea and exploit valuable seafood resources.

With over 10 years of experience repairing engines and machinery for boats, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhien (Hamlet 10, Son Hai) is increasingly known among fishermen in Quynh Luu for his high level of skill. Whenever fishing boats encounter problems or breakdowns at sea, Mr. Nhien's team of mechanics diligently repairs them in a short time, allowing fishermen to quickly return to their fishing grounds.

"Due to the increasing demand from fishermen for boat renovation and construction, the machinery and engines on the boats are constantly being upgraded and maintained. Therefore, every month our facility receives dozens of large-capacity boat engines of 400 horsepower or more for repair. For newly assembled boat engines, the repair takes about 3 days; while engines damaged during operation at sea take longer to repair," Mr. Nhien said.

Due to operating and exploiting resources at sea, the equipment and machinery on board often rust and break down; upon returning to port, the vessel owners always try to bring the equipment ashore for repair.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, a fishing boat owner in Quynh Long commune, if there weren't boat repair teams in the area, they would have to send their boat engines to other provinces for repair, which is both time-consuming and causes delays in fishing trips. Currently, all coastal communes in Quynh Luu have specialized boat engine repair facilities, so fishermen can feel secure in continuing their work at sea.

Sharing his experience in repairing ship engines, Mr. Tran Van Long, who has 20 years of experience, said that previously he mainly repaired small engines from 90-110 horsepower; in the last four years, he has also taken on the repair of engines from 400 horsepower and above.

Besides repairing ship engines, Long's workshop also undertakes the installation of engine systems for newly built ships. Depending on the ship owner, a new engine installation on a "massive" ship can cost over 1 billion VND; if a refurbished used engine is installed, it costs around 600-700 million VND.

Quynh Luu district has a large number of fishing vessels, totaling 1,275, of which approximately 600 have a capacity exceeding 90 horsepower. To meet the needs for vessel repairs when breakdowns occur, over 20 repair shops have sprung up in the communes of Tien Thuy, Son Hai, Quynh Long, etc. Most of these shops have skilled and experienced technicians, effectively meeting the needs of local fishermen.
