Türkiye fails to reach agreement with US on purchasing Russian S-400
The United States and Türkiye have failed to “break the deadlock” in negotiations over Ankara’s planned purchase of Russia’s S-400 air defense missile system, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed officials.
The Wall Street Journal noted that on April 15, US President Donald Trump met with Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak. Earlier, the minister said that the US leader was taking a reasonable approach to Türkiye's desire to purchase the Russian S-400 air defense system.
Additionally, according to the newspaper, representatives of the United States and Türkiye met this week on the sidelines of the 37th annual conference on US-Türkiye relations in Washington.

Türkiye previously said it would not abandon its plans to buy the S-400 and that the first order of air defense systems would be delivered next July.
Meanwhile, the US has claimed that the S-400 systems are incompatible with NATO standards, threatened sanctions over the deal and has repeatedly warned that it could delay or cancel Turkey's sale of its latest F-35 aircraft.
Türkiye is one of the countries participating in the US international program to create the F-35 aircraft.
