Türkiye: US should understand that sanctions will not bring results
(Baonghean.vn) - The US needs to understand that it cannot achieve results through sanctions, threats and pressure on Türkiye. That is the assertion of the Turkish Foreign Minister, at the same time he reiterated that Ankara is ready to seek a solution to the current dispute through dialogue and diplomacy.

“It is impossible for us to accept these sanctions and threats. Our expectation is that the US side remains faithful to our traditional friendship and our NATO alliance,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in a speech to Turkish ambassadors at an annual conference in Ankara on August 13.
The US has imposed political and economic sanctions on Türkiye over the continued detention of Father Andrew Brunson. Washington has threatened that further sanctions could be imposed if the priest is not released and returned home.
“The US is confused, ‘Should we resolve this issue with Türkiye or should we keep it until the November elections?’” Mr. Cavusoglu said, referring to the US midterm congressional elections.
The minister stressed that the US needs to understand that it will not achieve any results through sanctions, calling for more dialogue and diplomacy.
“Türkiye has done enough to restore relations,” he said, stressing that a culture of compromise requires steps by both sides to resolve issues.
Cavusoglu also reiterated that the US side has not taken any concrete steps towards Türkiye's request to extradite cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom it considers the mastermind of the July 2016 coup attempt, and that the US has acted contrary to the alliance regarding Türkiye's fundamental security issues.
