According to the Financial Times, Ankara's goal in Syria now is to suppress the Kurdish movement and the fight against IS.

"After years of broken alliances, declining trade and growing terrorist attacks, Ankara feels isolated internationally, while Türkiye struggles with the Kurdish movement at home and the "Islamic State" - the article in the Financial Times noted.

At the same time, the impetus for closer ties with Russia and a change in strategy in Syria may have been the terrorist attack at Istanbul airport, which Turkish authorities have blamed on IS. Although diplomats are cautious about the possibility of any change at home, the pro-government press in Türkiye has changed its tone.

Atlantic Council analyst Aaron Stein believes that in this context, Türkiye will change its priorities in Syria. The main task now will be not only to fight the Kurds, but also to fight IS. Experts believe that for this purpose, Ankara will need Moscow's support.
