Eating habits are destroying the Vietnamese body
More than 50% of the Vietnamese population lacks vegetables and fruits in their daily meals. This puts them at risk of dangerous diseases.
Master, Doctor Dzoan Thi Tuong Vi, Deputy Director of the Institute of Clinical Nutrition, said that Vietnam is a country that grows a lot of vegetables, but more than 57% of the adult population does not eat enough vegetables and fruits. Meanwhile, the recommended level of the World Health Organization is 400 grams per day.
According to Dr. Tuong Vi, green vegetables are a source of vitamins, minerals, fiber and many beneficial ingredients for the body such as carotenoids, vitamin C, folate, selenium...
“On average, we should eat 300-500 grams of ripe vegetables and fruits in red, green, yellow, white, purple and orange colors per day,” Dr. Tuong Vi recommends.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Ninh - nutritionist, Medlatec General Hospital - said that unbalanced eating habits are causing many people to suffer from metabolic disorders.
This is a syndrome that includes many diseases such as overweight, obesity, lipid metabolism disorders, glucose metabolism disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, gout. This syndrome can also cause many complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney failure. In particular, the age of the disease is getting younger and younger.
In the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders, fiber plays a very important role. There are two types of fiber: insoluble (found in many green vegetables, fruits, bamboo shoots...) and soluble (found in the bran of rice, barley, corn, peanuts, beans, white pulp of grapefruit, oranges, apple peel, grape peel...).
Insoluble fiber helps reduce blood cholesterol levels. Soluble fiber affects lipid metabolism, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.
For stabilizing blood sugar, fiber has the effect of limiting the increase in blood sugar after eating, especially soluble fiber due to its ability to increase insulin sensitivity. At the same time, it participates in the metabolism of triglycerides, helping to control blood sugar levels effectively.
According to experts, diseases caused by eating habits in modern society are increasingly common, accompanied by many health consequences. Experts recommend that people should be more aware of their daily diet, including adding enough vegetables to their daily diet to take advantage of valuable sources of fiber.
