According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chinese Fisheries Administration has announced a temporary suspension of fishing for all occupations except fishing from 12:00 on May 1 to 12:00 on August 16 in the sea areas; including the common fishing area on the Chinese side (the sea area east of the demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin) and the sea area under Vietnam's sovereignty.
In light of the above situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam requests the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities to direct competent authorities to notify fishermen participating in marine fishing activities about this announcement and affirm that China's announcement to temporarily suspend fishing in waters under Vietnam's sovereignty is invalid.
At the same time, the provinces encouraged fishermen to stay at sea and produce normally within Vietnam's waters and instructed them to organize into teams when going to work to support each other at sea.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam also noted that fishing vessels with fishing licenses in the Common Fishing Zone of the Gulf of Tonkin in 2016-2017 are not allowed to exploit in the waters east of the demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin, except for fishing vessels operating in the fishing industry.
In addition, direct competent agencies to strengthen management and supervision of fishing vessels' fishing activities in sea areas, especially closely coordinate in managing the departure of fishing vessels operating during this time. Promptly report any unexpected incidents at sea to the Directorate of Fisheries via the hotline of the Department of Fisheries Control, phone number 04.62737373./.
