The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front deeply regret to announce:

ComradeLe Kha Phieu, born on December 27, 1931, in Dong Khe commune, Dong Son district, Thanh Hoa province; permanent residence at 7-36-C1 Ly Nam De, Cua Dong ward, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi city. Participated in revolutionary activities in 1947; joined the Party on June 19, 1949. Member of the Party Central Committee, 7th and 8th terms; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, 7th term; Member of the Politburo, 7th and 8th terms; Standing member, Standing member of the Politburo, 8th term; General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, 8th term (from December 1997 to April 2001). Delegate of the National Assembly, 9th and 10th terms.

After a period of illness, despite the devoted treatment of the Party, the State, the collective of professors and doctors, and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, he passed away at 2:52 a.m. on August 7, 2020 (June 18, Canh Ty year), at his home, at the age of 89.

During more than 70 years of revolutionary activities, Comrade has made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 70-year Party membership badge and many other noble Vietnamese and international orders and medals by the Party and the State.

Comrade's passing is a great loss to our Party, State and people.

In memory of comrade Le Kha Phieu, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of comrade Le Kha Phieu with the State funeral rites.

BIOGRAPHY SUMMARY
Comrade Le Kha Phieu - former General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam

ComradeLe Kha PhieuBorn on December 27, 1931; Hometown: Dong Khe Commune, Dong Son District, Thanh Hoa Province. Permanent residence: 7-36-C1 Ly Nam De, Cua Dong Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City. Participated in revolutionary activities in 1947; joined the Party on June 19, 1949.

From 1947 to 1949, he taught popular education in the commune. In June 1949, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam, in charge of propaganda work, and worked as Chief of the Commune Party Cell Office.

From May 1950 to August 1954, he enlisted, became a soldier, and then held the positions of Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, Deputy Company Political Commissar, Company Political Commissar, Regiment 66, Division 304.

From September 1954 to March 1955, he studied intermediate military and political supplementary course I.

From March 1955 to March 1958, he successively held the positions of Head of the Regiment Organization Subcommittee, Battalion Political Commissar; Deputy Chief and then Political Commissar of Regiment 66, Division 304.

In April 1958, he was a student at the High School of Politics.

From June 1961 to 1966, he successively held the positions of Deputy Head of the Personnel Department, then Head of the Organization Department, Political Department of Division 304; then Deputy Political Commissar, then Political Commissar of Regiment 9, Division 304, Right Bank Military Region, and member of the Division Party Committee.

In July 1967, he entered the Tri Thien battlefield to fight, serving as Political Commissar of Regiment 9. In January 1968, he concurrently served as Regiment Commander of Regiment 9.

In 1970, he was the Head of the Organization Department of Tri Thien Military Region.

From October 1971 to February 1974, he was Deputy Political Commissar of Tri Thien Military Region.

In March 1974, he became Political Commissar of Tri Thien Military Region (later Army Corps 2), Party Committee member of the Army Corps.

In February 1978, he became Political Commissar, then Deputy Political Commissar and Political Commissar of Military Region 9.

In August 1980, he became Deputy Commander of Politics and Political Commissar of Military Region 9, was elected to the Standing Committee and then Deputy Secretary of the Military Region Party Committee.

In March 1983, he held the position of Political Commissar of Military Region 9.

In April 1984, he became Political Commissar of Command 719 and was promoted to the rank of Major General.

In 1986, he became Deputy Commander of Politics and Political Commissar of Command 719, and became a member and then Deputy Secretary of the Executive Committee of Command 719.

In June 1988, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

In August 1988, he became Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army (in charge of organization, personnel, and security).

At the 7th National Party Congress (June 1991), he was elected to the Party Central Committee, assigned as Director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, and member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Party Committee (now the Central Military Commission).

At the 3rd Central Executive Committee Conference, 7th term, he was elected to the Central Party Secretariat.

In June 1992, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General.

At the mid-term national conference of the 7th Central Executive Committee (January 1994), he was elected to the Politburo.

At the 8th National Party Congress (June 1996), he continued to be elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Central Committee to the Politburo, was appointed to the Politburo Standing Committee, and was assigned to be a Standing Member of the Politburo and Head of the Central Internal Political Protection Committee.

At the 4th Central Executive Committee Conference, 8th term (December 1997), he was elected General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Central Military Party Committee (now the Central Military Commission).

He was a member of the Party Central Committee of the 7th and 8th tenures; Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 7th tenure; Member of the Politburo of the 7th and 8th tenures; Standing Member and Standing Member of the Politburo of the 8th tenure; General Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 8th tenure (from December 1997 to April 2001). Delegate of the National Assembly of the 9th and 10th tenures.

In October 2006, he was discharged from work according to the regime.

Due to his many contributions and outstanding achievements to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was awarded the Gold Star Order by the Party and the State; the 70-year Party membership badge and many other noble Vietnamese and international orders and medals.

Funeral of comradeLe Kha Phieuheld according to the National Funeral ceremony.

Comrade Le Kha Phieu's coffin is lying in state at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

The funeral of comrade Le Kha Phieu will be held at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, starting from 8:00 a.m., August 14, 2020 to 12:00 p.m., August 15, 2020.

The memorial service for comrade Le Kha Phieu will be held at 12:30 p.m. on August 15, 2020 at the National Funeral Home, 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.

At the same time, at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and Hall 25B, Quang Trung Street, Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province, the Funeral and Memorial Service for Comrade Le Kha Phieu were also held.

Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the funeral, memorial service and burial ceremony of comrade Le Kha Phieu in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Thanh Hoa province.

During the two days of National Mourning (August 14 and 15, 2020), all offices and public places will fly flags at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be suspended.
