The funeral of Comrade Tran Dai Quang, Politburo member and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, was held with national mourning rites.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front deeply regret to announce:


Comrade Tran Dai Quang, born on October 12, 1956; hometown: Quang Thien Commune, Kim Son District, Ninh Binh Province; permanent residence: No. 8, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum Street, Nhan Chinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi City. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on July 26, 1980; Member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th, 12th terms; Member of the Politburo of the 11th, 12th terms; President (from April 2016 to present), Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council; Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission; Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee; National Assembly Delegate of the 13th and 14th terms; Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform.

After a period of illness, despite the devoted treatment of the Party, the State, the collective of professors and doctors, and the wholehearted care of his family, due to serious illness, he passed away at 10:05 a.m. on September 21, 2018 (ie August 12, Mau Tuat year), at the 108 Central Military Hospital.

Throughout his career, he has made many contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He has been awarded many noble Orders and Medals by the Party and the State, including the 30-year Party membership badge.

Comrade's passing is a great loss to our Party, State and people.

In memory of comrade Tran Dai Quang, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of comrade Tran Dai Quang with the national funeral rites.

SUMMARY OF BIOGRAPHY OF COMRADE TRAN DAI QUANG, Member of the Politburo, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Comrade Tran Dai Quang, born on October 12, 1956, in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province; permanent residence at house number 8, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum street, Nhan Chinh ward, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city. He was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam on July 26, 1980.

7/1972-10/1975:
He was a student of the People's Police School and a student of the Foreign Language and Culture School of the Ministry of the Interior (now the Ministry of Public Security).

10/1975-6/1990:As an officer, Deputy Head of Department, Head of Department of Political Protection, Ministry of Home Affairs.

6/1990-9/1996:Deputy Party Secretary, Deputy Director of Security Staff Department, then Deputy Director in charge of Security Staff Department, General Department of Security.

9/1996-10/2000:Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the General Department of Security, Party Secretary, Director of the Security Staff Department.

10/2000-4/2006:Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Security, Ministry of Public Security. Promoted to the rank of Major General of People's Security and awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2003.

4/2006-01/2011: Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security; promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General of People's Security (April 2007) and awarded the title of Professor in 2009. At the 10th National Congress of the Party, he was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the Party.

01/2011-7/2011:Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security. At the 11th National Congress of the Party, he was elected to the Central Committee of the Party, and was elected by the Central Committee of the Party to the Politburo; Delegate to the 13th National Assembly.

7/2011-12/2012:Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security. Promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General (December 2011); Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee.

12/2012-4/2016:Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security, promoted to the rank of General (December 2012); Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control; Deputy Head of the Central Internal Political Protection Subcommittee. At the 12th National Congress of the Party, he was re-elected to the Party Central Committee, and was elected by the Central Committee to the Politburo (January 2016). At the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly (April 2016), he was elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. At the 1st session of the 14th National Assembly (July 2016), he was re-elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

From April 2016 to present:Member of the Politburo, President, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council; Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission; Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee; Deputy of the 14th National Assembly; Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform.

He was a member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th and 12th terms; a member of the Politburo of the 11th and 12th terms; and a National Assembly delegate of the 13th and 14th terms.

Due to his many contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was awarded many noble medals and badges by the Party and State, including the 30-year Party membership badge.

Funeral, Memorial Service and Burial of Comrade Tran Dai Quang

The funeral of comrade Tran Dai Quang was held according to the National Funeral protocol.

Comrade Tran Dai Quang's coffin lies at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

The funeral of comrade Tran Dai Quang will begin at 7:00 a.m. on September 26, 2018, at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

The memorial service for comrade Tran Dai Quang will be held at 7:30 a.m. on September 27, 2018 at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. the same day at Kim Son District Cemetery, Ninh Binh Province.

At the same time, at the Reunification Hall of Ho Chi Minh City and at the Hall of the People's Committee of Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province, the memorial service for comrade Tran Dai Quang was also held.

Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the funeral, memorial service and burial ceremony of comrade Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

During the two days of National Mourning (September 26 and 27, 2018), all offices and public places will fly flags at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be suspended.
