The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front deeply regret to announce:
Comrade Do Muoi was born on February 2, 1917 in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city; permanent residence at No. 11, Pham Dinh Ho street, Pham Dinh Ho ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city.
Participated in revolutionary activities in 1936; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in June 1939.
Former alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party, term II; member of the Central Committee of the Party, term III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII; alternate member of the Politburo, term IV; member of the Politburo, term V, VI, VII, VIII; Standing member of the Secretariat, term VI; Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister) of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (from June 1988 to June 1991); General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party (from June 1991 to December 1997); Advisor to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (from 1997 to 2000). National Assembly delegate, term II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX.
After a period of serious illness, despite the Party, State, professors and doctors' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, he passed away at 11:12 p.m. on October 1, 2018 (August 22, Mau Tuat year), at the 108 Central Military Hospital, Hanoi.
During more than 80 years of revolutionary activities, he made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 80-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and the State.
Comrade's passing is a great loss to our Party, State and people.
In memory of comrade Do Muoi, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of comrade Do Muoi with the State funeral rites.

SUMMARY OF COMRADE DO MUOI'S BIOGRAPHY
Former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; former Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister) of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; former Advisor to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Comrade Do Muoi (birth name Nguyen Duy Cong), born on February 2, 1917; hometown: Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city. Permanent residence: No. 11, Pham Dinh Ho street, Pham Dinh Ho ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city. Participated in revolutionary activities in 1936; joined the Party in June 1939.
In 1936, he joined the Popular Front movement.
In 1937, he joined the Hon Gai Miners' Friendship Organization.
In 1938, he returned to his hometown to work, joined the Trade Union, and campaigned for the movement to support the Soviet Union; in June 1939, he was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party (now the Communist Party of Vietnam).
In 1941, he was arrested by the French colonialists and sentenced to 10 years in prison, imprisoned in Ha Dong Prison and Hoa Lo Prison, Hanoi.
In 1945, Japan staged a coup against France. He escaped from Hoa Lo prison, contacted the Party and continued his activities. He was assigned to join the Ha Dong Provincial Party Committee's Uprising Committee, in charge of the revolutionary movement in Ung Hoa and My Duc districts, and participated in leading the uprising to seize power in Ha Dong province.
After the August Revolution in 1945, he became Secretary of the Ha Dong Provincial Party Committee.
In early 1946, he became Secretary of the Ha Nam Provincial Party Committee. In late 1946, he became Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Nam Dinh Provincial Resistance Committee.
In 1947-1949, he was a member of the Regional Party Committee of Region III, Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee, and Secretary of the Hoa Binh Provincial Party Committee.
In 1950, he became Deputy Secretary of the Inter-Zone Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Administrative Resistance Committee of Inter-Zone III, Political Commissar and Commander of Inter-Zone III.
In 1951-1954, he served as Secretary of the Red River Left Bank Regional Party Committee, Chairman of the Administrative Resistance Committee and Political Commissar of the Red River Left Bank Military Region.
In 1955, he directed the takeover of Zone 300 days, Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Military and Political Committee of Hai Phong City. In March 1955, he was elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee.
In 1956, he became Deputy Minister of Commerce.
In 1958, he became Minister of Domestic Trade.
At the 3rd National Congress of the Party (September 1960), he was elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and held the position of Minister of Domestic Trade.
In 1967-1968, he was Chairman of the State Pricing Committee and Head of the Government Inspection Delegation.
From 1969 to 1973, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Capital Construction Committee. In 1973, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Vice Chairman of the Central Front Support Council and the Anti-blockade Council of Hai Phong Port.
At the 4th National Congress of the Party (December 1976), he was re-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee, and was elected by the Party Central Committee as an alternate member of the Politburo, holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister, in charge of the following sectors: Basic Construction, Industry, Materials, Industrial and Commercial Renovation and Distribution and Circulation.
At the 5th National Congress of the Party (March 1982), he was re-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Party Central Committee to the Politburo, holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister, in charge of the following sectors: Basic Construction, Industry, and Materials.
At the 6th National Congress of the Party (December 1986), he was re-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Party Central Committee to the Politburo, and assigned to be the Standing Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat.
In June 1988, he was elected by the National Assembly as Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister).
At the 7th National Congress of the Party (June 1991), he continued to be elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Party Central Committee to the Politburo and held the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Military Commission.
At the 8th National Congress of the Party (June 1996), he continued to be elected as a member of the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Party Central Committee to the Politburo and held the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Military Commission.
In December 1997, at the 4th Conference of the Party Central Committee, 8th tenure, he asked to resign from the Party Central Committee and the position of General Secretary; he was honored by the Party Central Committee as Advisor to the Party Central Committee until 2000.

The funeral of comrade Do Muoi was held according to the State funeral protocol.
Comrade Do Muoi's coffin lies at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
The funeral of comrade Do Muoi will start from 7:00 a.m. on October 6, 2018 to 7:30 a.m. on October 7, 2018 at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
The memorial service for comrade Do Muoi will be held at 9:00 a.m. on October 7, 2018, at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. the same day at his hometown, Ma Vang Area, Village 1, Dong My Commune, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi City.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Reunification Hall also held a memorial service for comrade Do Muoi.
Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the funeral, memorial service and burial ceremony of comrade Do Muoi in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
During the two days of National Mourning (October 6 and 7, 2018), all offices and public places will fly flags at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be suspended./.
