The tunnel through the mountain has a total length of nearly 40km, designed with 2 main lanes and 2 emergency lanes, located in Van Yen district (Yen Bai province).
On April 20th, in Chau Que Thuong commune, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province, the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation held a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel at km 186+200, part of package A6 of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway construction project.

Package A6 of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway project, commenced on January 25, 2010, has a total length of nearly 40km, designed with 2 main lanes and 2 emergency lanes, located in Van Yen district (Yen Bai province), with a total contract value of over 2.412 billion VND, constructed by DOOSAN Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. (South Korea).
The tunnel through the mountain at kilometer marker 186+200 is 530m long, 9m high, and 14.5m wide, with an asphalt surface… This is one of four major components of the project (including the National Highway 2 underpass, the Song Lo bridge, the tunnel through the mountain under package A6, and the Song Hong bridge). The completion of the tunnel marks an important milestone in the investor's determination to ensure the project's completion.
Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang emphasized that with only 8 months left to complete the project, and much work remaining, all units, investors, contractors, design consultants, and supervision consultants must coordinate closely, review the workload, and mobilize additional vehicles, machinery, equipment, and personnel. In particular, incompetent subcontractors must be resolutely replaced to ensure smooth construction, on schedule, and with quality.
For the two provinces of Lao Cai and Yen Bai, it is necessary to continue creating favorable conditions in supplying raw materials to contractors for construction.
Minister Dinh La Thang also expressed his hope for further assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for contractors, as the cost of materials for the project is very high in the final stages…
The Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway project is part of a cooperation program between six countries in the Mekong sub-region and passes through the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, and the city of Hanoi.
The route is 245km long (phase 1), with a total investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND and is divided into 8 bidding packages from A1-A8. Of this, the section passing through Yen Bai province has a total length of over 80km (from km 109+750 to km 190+420), traversing Van Yen and Tran Yen districts and Yen Bai city, with the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) as the investor.
Upon completion, the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway project will create momentum for socio-economic development in the northern region, especially for the mountainous and midland provinces through which the route runs.
