Tunnel through the mountain of Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway

The mountain tunnel has a total length of nearly 40km, designed with 2 main lanes and 2 emergency lanes in Van Yen district (Yen Bai).

On April 20, at Chau Que Thuong commune, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province, the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Expressway Corporation held a tunnel opening ceremony at km 186+200, part of package A6 of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway construction project.

Package A6, Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway Project started on January 25, 2010 with a total length of nearly 40km, designed with 2 main lanes and 2 emergency lanes in Van Yen district (Yen Bai), with a total package value of over 2,412 billion VND, constructed by DOOSAN Heavy Industry and Construction Co., Ltd. (Korea).

The tunnel through the mountain at Km 186+200 has a length of 530m, a height of 9m, a width of 14.5m, and an asphalt road surface... This is one of the four major items of the project (including the National Highway 2 underpass, Song Lo bridge, the tunnel through the mountain under the A6 package and the Song Hong bridge). The tunnel opening marked an important milestone for the investor's determination to ensure the completion of the project.

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang emphasized that the project completion time is only 8 months, while there is still a lot of work to be done, so the units, investors, contractors, design consultants, supervision consultants... must have close coordination, review the workload, mobilize more vehicles, machinery, equipment and human resources. In particular, it is necessary to resolutely replace incompetent subcontractors to ensure smooth construction, on schedule and quality...

For the two provinces of Lao Cai and Yen Bai, continue to create favorable conditions in providing raw materials for contractors for construction.

Minister Dinh La Thang also hopes for further assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for contractors, because in the final stages the cost of materials to implement the project is very large...

The Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway Project is a route within the cooperation program between six countries in the Mekong sub-region and passes through the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Hanoi city.

The route length is 245km (phase 1), with a total investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND and is divided into 8 packages from A1-A8. Of which, the section passing through Yen Bai province has a total length of over 80km (from km 109+750 to km 190+420), passing through Van Yen, Tran Yen districts, Yen Bai city, invested by Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

When the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway project is completed, it will create momentum for socio-economic development in the northern region, especially for the mountainous and midland provinces through which the route runs./.
