Official information on the case of a 9th grade student being hacked to death by his uncle

After nearly a week of investigation, Cam Xuyen District Police have decided to temporarily detain the uncle who slashed Nguyen Huu Thuong (16 years old, 9th grade student, Cam Duong Secondary School, Cam Duong Commune, Cam Xuyen District, Ha Tinh) to death.

Captain Le Viet Duong - Deputy Chief of Cam Xuyen District Police said: The murder happened right in the victim's and the perpetrator's house, so from the beginning there was no source of information reported to the investigation agency.

On the night of April 12, 2019, Cam Xuyen District Police received a report from a doctor at Ha Tinh General Hospital (name withheld) that a victim was brought to the hospital in critical condition, according to family members who said it was due to a fall. However, through the process of emergency care and wound suturing, the doctor determined that this could be a murder case.

Upon receiving the news, that same night a working group of Cam Xuyen District Police secretly divided into two groups to go to the hospital and the victim's home to verify.

After many hours of investigation, the authorities came up with three possible scenarios. Scenario 1: The victim may have accidentally fallen in the house; scenario 2, the victim may have been in a traffic accident; scenario 3, someone intentionally murdered him.

All three scenarios were gradually screened and filtered by detectives. Through examining the injuries, the authorities ruled out falls in the house and traffic accidents, leaving only the possibility of intentional murder. However, to identify the perpetrator, the authorities had to narrow down the area. And, the three suspects were: the victim’s uncle, aunt, and neighbor.

After examining the wound and identifying several witnesses, the aunt and neighbor were eliminated, leaving only the uncle. However, when summoned, Mr. Nguyen Trong Doan denied his actions and said that Thuong had fallen.

Focusing on the fight and the evidence collected, finally the subject Doan had to bow his head and admit his guilt.

Doan stated: “At around 8:00 p.m. on April 12, the subject was drinking with friends when he heard his wife run up and say that the money in the cupboard was missing. Suspecting that his niece had stolen it, this person immediately called Thuong down to the kitchen to question her.

Here, Doan thought that Thuong was the one who stole the money but refused to admit his mistake, so with the machete he was holding in his hand, Doan slashed his nephew once in the face, causing Thuong to collapse on the spot.

After the incident, Doan and his wife took Thuong to the medical station to have her wound stitched and transferred her to Ha Tinh General Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim was transferred to Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment but was sent back and died on April 16.

The suspect Doan is being detained by the authorities, awaiting the results of the forensic examination, to initiate a case and prosecute the accused.
