Important information about priority subjects when considering high school graduation in 2024

Priority in the 2024 high school graduation exam helps candidates reduce exam pressure, without having to wait for high school exam results. This method increases the chance of entering the major and university of their choice for candidates.

Two groups of subjects are given priority when considering high school graduation in 2024

Pursuant to Appendix 2 of the Regulations on University and College Admissions for Preschool Education issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the preferential policy subjects when considering high school graduation are as follows:

-Priority group 1:

+ Vietnamese citizens who are ethnic minorities and have permanent residence during their high school or intermediate studies of over 18 months in Region 1;

+ Direct production workers have worked continuously for 5 years or more, of which at least 2 years have been emulation fighters recognized by provincial level or higher and awarded certificates of merit;

+ War invalids, sick soldiers, people with "Certificate of person entitled to policies like war invalids;

+ Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and conscripts in the People's Public Security on active duty who are sent to study and have served for 12 months or more in Region 1;

+ Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and conscripts in the People's Public Security on active duty who are sent to study and have served for 18 months or more;

+ Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and conscripts in the People's Public Security who have been discharged from the military and recognized as having completed their military service obligations according to regulations.

+ Relatives of martyrs;

+ Children of war invalids, sick soldiers, children of people enjoying the same policies as war invalids with a reduced working capacity of 81% or more;

+ Children of resistance fighters infected with toxic chemicals have a working capacity reduction of 81% or more;

+ Children of People's Armed Forces Heroes; children of Labor Heroes during the resistance war period;

+ Children of resistance fighters with deformities or disabilities due to the effects of toxic chemicals are receiving monthly allowances.

- Priority group 2:

+ Youth volunteers are sent to school;

+ Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and conscripts in the People's Public Security on active duty who are sent to study and have served less than 12 months in Region 1 and less than 18 months in other regions;

+ Commanders, Deputy Commanders of Military Commands of Communes, Wards, and Towns; Village Team Leaders, Platoon Leaders of Core Militia and Self-Defense Forces, Self-Defense Forces who have completed their service in the Core Militia and Self-Defense Forces for 12 months or more, taking the exam for entry into the Basic Military Sector. The maximum period of priority is 18 months from the date of signing the discharge decision to the date of registration for admission.

+ Vietnamese citizens who are ethnic minorities and have permanent residence outside the prescribed areas are subject to subject 1;

+ Children of war invalids, sick soldiers, children of people enjoying the same policies as war invalids with reduced working capacity of less than 81%;

+ Children of resistance fighters infected with toxic chemicals have a labor capacity reduction rate of less than 81%.

+ People with severe disabilities have a certificate of disability issued by a competent authority;

+ Outstanding workers from all economic sectors from provincial and ministerial levels and above are recognized as skilled workers and artisans, and are awarded certificates or badges of Creative Labor by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor or the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union;

+ Teachers who have taught for 3 years or more can apply for teacher training programs;

+ Nurses, pharmacists, nursing assistants, physicians, caregivers, midwives, technicians, and people with a secondary pharmacy degree who have worked for 3 years or more can apply for the right major in the health field.

How many points are given to priority subjects according to the policy when considering national high school admission in 2024?

Clause 2, Article 7 of the Regulations on University and College Admissions for Preschool Education issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT stipulates preferential policies in admission:

"Priority according to policy subjects (according to Appendix II of the Regulation)

a) The priority score applied to group UT1 (including subjects 01 to 04) is 2.0 points and to group UT2 (including subjects 05 to 07) is 1.0 point;

b) The priority score for other policy subjects (specified in current legal documents) is decided by the Minister of Education and Training;

c) Candidates belonging to many policy subjects specified in Points a and b of this Clause will only be given the highest priority score.

According to the above regulations, for priority group 1, the bonus point will be 02 points, and for priority group 2, the bonus point will be 01 point.

Note: Candidates who belong to many policy categories will only have the highest score among them counted.

What subjects are included in the 2024 high school graduation exam?

Article 3 of the Regulations on High School Graduation Exams issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT stipulates that the 2024 High School Graduation Exam includes the following subjects:

- 03 independent exams: Math, Literature, Foreign Language;

- 01 combined exam of Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology);

- 01 Social Science combination exam (History, Geography, Civic Education).

Note: Candidates studying the high school level GDTX program will take the component subjects of History and Geography.

What is the 2024 high school graduation exam format?

Article 4 of the Regulations on High School Graduation Exams issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT stipulates the exam date, exam schedule, exam content, exam format and exam time/exam subjects:

"Exam date, exam schedule, exam content, exam format and exam time/exam subjects

1. Exam date and schedule: Specified in the annual high school graduation exam organization guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

2. Exam content: Exam content is within the high school curriculum, mainly grade 12 curriculum.

3. Exam format: Math, Foreign Language, Natural Science and Social Science exams are in the form of objective multiple-choice tests (generally called multiple-choice tests); Literature exam is in the form of essay tests (generally called essay tests).

4. Exam time/subject: Literature 120 minutes; Math 90 minutes; Foreign language 60 minutes; 50 minutes for each component subject of the combined exam of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences".

According to the regulations on the 2024 high school graduation exam format:

- Multiple choice test for subjects:

+ Math (90 minutes).

+ Natural Sciences and Social Sciences (50 minutes for each component subject).

+ Foreign language (60 minutes).

- Essay test for Literature (120 minutes).

What conditions must candidates for the 2024 high school graduation exam meet?

According to Clause 1, Clause 2, Article 12 of the Regulations on high school graduation exams issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of Circular 05/2021/TT-BGDDT, the subjects and conditions for taking the exam are stipulated as follows:

"Subjects and conditions for participation

1. Contestants include:

a) People who have completed high school program in the year of the exam;

b) People who have completed high school but have not yet taken the high school graduation exam or have taken the exam but not yet graduated from high school in previous years;

c) People with high school diplomas or intermediate diplomas can take the exam to use the results as a basis for admission registration;

d) Some other special cases decided by the Minister of Education and Training".

Accordingly, candidates for the 2024 high school graduation exam must meet the following conditions:

(1) For candidates who have completed high school program in the year of the exam

- Evaluated in grade 12 with conduct ranked average or above and academic performance not classified as poor;

- For students who are not required to have their conduct classified and students who study in the form of self-study with guidance under the GDTX program, conduct classification is not required;

(2) For candidates who have completed high school but have not yet taken the high school graduation exam or have taken the exam but have not yet graduated from high school in previous years

- Have a junior high school diploma and must ensure that in grade 12, the conduct is ranked average or above and academic performance is not ranked poor;

- In case of not being eligible to take the exam in previous years due to poor academic performance in grade 12, must register and take the final exam of the school year for some subjects with an average score below 5.0 (five) points;

- In case of not being eligible to take the exam in previous years due to being classified as having poor conduct in grade 12, the People's Committee of the commune where the student resides must confirm compliance with local laws and policies and regulations so that the high school where the student studied in grade 12 can confirm eligibility to take the exam in terms of conduct classification according to regulations;

(3) For candidates who have a high school diploma or a secondary school diploma, take the exam to use the results as a basis for admission registration;

- Have studied and passed the required amount of high school cultural knowledge according to regulations.
