Vinh Thinh Bridge across the Red River is a key traffic project on Ring Road 5, one of the three important ring roads included in the Transport Development Plan and the Master Plan for Capital Construction to 2030 with a vision to 2050. This is the longest reinforced concrete bridge, permanent prestressed reinforced concrete bridge crossing the river 5,487m (of which the bridge is 4,480m long) in Vietnam to date. The bridge cross-section is 16.5m wide for 4 lanes with a design speed of 80km/h. The project has a total investment of 137 million USD from ODA loans from Korea and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government.

After 28 months of construction, Vinh Thinh Bridge will be put into use, connecting two radial axes (National Highway 32 and National Highway 2), Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway, Ho Chi Minh Road, creating a complete traffic system, connecting the center of the capital with the Northwestern provinces such as Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang; at the same time contributing to reducing traffic pressure on radial axes such as National Highways 2, 3, 6, 32 when traveling through the center of Hanoi to the Southern provinces and vice versa...

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised the Ministry of Transport, the Thang Long Project Management Board, the authorities and people of Hanoi and Vinh Phuc province, especially the team of officers, engineers and workers at the construction site who closely coordinated, made efforts to overcome many difficulties, and worked day and night to officially put Vinh Thinh Bridge into operation nearly 7 months ahead of schedule, ensuring construction safety and project quality.

The Prime Minister emphasized: Vinh Thinh Bridge not only meets the long-standing aspirations of the people (Son Tay and Vinh Tuong) living on both banks, but is also a project of great significance in the process of industrialization, modernization, economic, cultural and social development, ensuring national defense, security, transportation, and improving the lives of the people of Hanoi, Vinh Phuc and more broadly the Northwestern provinces.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stated: “I request the transport sector, Hanoi City, Vinh Phuc Province as well as other provinces and cities across the country to compete and strive to build and put into use quickly, ensuring quality and efficiency of many more projects in the process of building socio-economic infrastructure. This is a breakthrough that the 11th Party Congress has proposed to accelerate the country's industrialization and modernization, to soon turn our country into a basically modern industrialized country.”

On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sincerely thanked the Government and people of the Republic of Korea for providing preferential ODA capital for the Vinh Thinh Bridge project. The Prime Minister said that to date, Korea has become a leading investor, partner and ODA donor of Vietnam. Vinh Thinh Bridge is one of 13 projects funded by Korea for the transport sector with a total capital of more than 1.1 billion USD. Affirming that the Vietnamese Government appreciates and continues to closely and effectively manage and use funding sources from partners, including Korea, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung hopes that both sides will strive to bring the Vietnam-Korea strategic partnership into deeper, more practical and effective terms, bringing prosperity and happiness to the people of the two countries./.
