With a total investment of 45,487 billion VND, the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway is more than 105km long with 6 lanes, a design speed of 120km/h, shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Hai Phong to 1 hour.

The Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Project started construction in May 2008 with a total investment of 45,487 billion VND. The entire route is 105.837 km long, passing through 4 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hai Phong, with the section passing through Hai Phong city being 33 km.

The route starts from the roundabout intersecting Ring Road 3 in Thach Ban, Long Bien, Hanoi. The end point is Dinh Vu Port, Hai An District, Hai Phong City.

The route is designed with 6 lanes, 2 emergency lanes, and 54 overpasses.

The road surface is designed according to AASHTO 1993 standards and audited according to Vietnam standard 22TCN211-06. This is the first road in Vietnam to use 5cm thick polymer asphalt concrete on the top to reduce the possibility of rutting when overloaded vehicles enter.

The maximum speed of the two inner lanes is 120km/h, the minimum is 80km/h, corresponding to 100km/h and 60km/h for the outer lane, shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Hai Phong to 1 hour.

Both sides of the road will be planted with trees, each side is estimated to be about 20m wide.

Reflective lights are designed to be mounted on the surface of the median strip, higher than the position of vehicle lights to avoid glare.

On the route, there are 2 large toll stations at the beginning of the route at Km10+600 in Hung Yen with a scale of 14 toll lanes and the end of the route at Km94+900 in Hai Phong with a scale of 16 toll lanes. Other toll stations are located at intersections with national highways with a scale of 4-10 toll lanes.

In addition, on the route there is 1 service station at km53+600 (Hai Duong province), 2 rest stops at Km 24+600 (Hung Yen province) and at Km 76+900 (Hai Phong city).

VIDIFI applies a fee of about 1,500 VND/km for standard vehicles, divided into 5 groups of vehicles and charged according to the actual distance traveled.

Accordingly, the lowest fee for the entire route for vehicles with less than 12 seats, buses, and trucks under 2 tons is 160,000 VND. The highest fee for the entire route is 840,000 VND, applied to trucks with a capacity of 18 tons or more, and trucks carrying 40-foot containers.

To ensure traffic safety for vehicles traveling on the highway, the Ministry of Transport requested the People's Committees of Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong provinces to direct competent agencies to organize propaganda and instruct drivers to comply with traffic safety laws on the highway. In addition, propaganda should be given to people living next to the highway not to encroach on the corridor, destroy fences, open shops, walk or ride motorbikes on the highway, and not let children throw rocks and dirt at vehicles, causing disorder and potential traffic safety risks./.
