Thanh Chuong 3 High School - Half a century of writing miracles
From the first classrooms built amidst bombs and bullets, with bamboo and thatch... to today, Thanh Chuong 3 High School has grown into a spacious, green, vibrant school, full of the spirit of learning in this land of outstanding people and rich history in Cat Ngan. Fifty years – a journey woven with sweat, intellect, and dreams. It is where the hands of countless generations of teachers have diligently nurtured it; where the smiles, tears, and pride of generations of students have grown up, spreading the light of knowledge far and wide.
Half a century of building from hardship.
From a small branch of Thanh Chuong 1 High School located in Hoa Village, Thanh Chuong 3 High School, now Thanh Chuong 3 High School, was officially established in September 1975 – a time when the country had just emerged from war, facing numerous difficulties and shortages. Amidst these hardships, the passion for teaching and learning among the teachers and students shone brightly, fueled by a simple belief: education would open up a bright future for the children of this impoverished region.
The person who laid the first foundation for the school was teacher Nguyen Tai Ngo - the first principal. With dedication and love for the profession, he and the teaching staff built everything from scratch.
Half a century has passed, and on the occasion of the school's 50th anniversary, representatives of the Board of Directors and generations of students visited the teacher as a token of their deepest gratitude to the person who laid the first bricks in building the beloved Thanh Chuong 3 school.
In 1984, the school was moved to a new location in Con Ve – where the school is currently situated. This beautiful and auspicious land blends seamlessly with the enduring life and studious tradition of the land and people of Cat Ngan.
Throughout its history, despite facing countless difficulties and challenges, generations of administrators, teachers, and students of Thanh Chuong 3 High School have always worked together to build and nurture their beloved school. It is this perseverance that has created a proud 50-year journey – a path written from the hearts, dedication, and aspirations of the teachers in the midland region of Nghe An province.
“In the old days, we had a very hard time. Both teachers and students worked tirelessly, both in teaching and learning, and in finding opportunities to work, making bricks, building the school… We didn’t have enough food to eat or clothes to wear, but the teachers and students were very affectionate and loving towards each other. It was from that initial foundation that Thanh Chuong 3 High School achieved the position it has today.”- Teacher Tran Trong Sau - former principal of the school from 1998-2007, affirmed.
The foundation of knowledge for nearly 25,000 students.
Fifty years, fifty generations of students have graduated. Regardless of the circumstances, Thanh Chuong 3 High School has always been a top-ranked school in Nghe An province with a long tradition of excellent teaching and learning. Nearly 25,000 students have left this beloved school with pride and a shining belief. They have become leaders, scientists, writers, military personnel, educators, and entrepreneurs...
From its early days, with the goal of creating a disciplined and orderly learning environment where students' talents could shine and their ambitions could be nurtured, the school has gradually risen to become a cornerstone for the dreams of generations of students.
Today, entering its 50th academic year, the school has transformed into a modern and spacious institution, from its facilities and landscape to the quality of teaching and learning. This transformation is largely due to the significant contributions of former students – successful individuals from Cat Ngan – who have returned to support their alma mater with both their hearts and resources.
Notably, Dr. Vo Van Hong donated two three-story school buildings with 39 classrooms, a traditional building, a school gate, and tens of billions of VND. Eurowindow Holding Joint Stock Company donated six modern English classrooms and a door system for the traditional building, totaling over 2.2 billion VND. Along with countless other generous contributions, these donations have helped create a spacious, modern, and vibrant appearance for this school.
Above all, it is the tireless effort and dedication of the entire teaching staff, who have poured their hearts and minds into elevating the status of Thanh Chuong 3 High School. The quality of the teaching staff is constantly improving: 100% of teachers and staff meet or exceed the standard qualifications; many teachers have been honored with the title of National Excellent Teacher; nearly 30% have received the title of Excellent Teacher and Administrator at the provincial level; and more than 30% of teachers hold master's degrees. Many teachers are key teachers, achieving outstanding results in training gifted students, preparing for the high school graduation exam, and writing innovative teaching methods…
In particular, during the 2022-2023 school year, Ms. Duong Thi Thanh, head of the English department, was one of only four teachers nationwide, and the only teacher from Nghe An province, to win a scholarship for a study tour and exchange of teaching experiences in the United States. This is a great honor and source of pride for Thanh Chuong 3 High School and the education sector of the province.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, and with its long history of achievements, Thanh Chuong 3 High School has risen to the top ranks of the Nghe An Education and Training sector. The quality of general education at the school has improved significantly. In recent years, the school has invested in modern and spacious facilities: from classrooms, experimental practice areas, foreign language classrooms, to outdoor reading and experiential areas, and large, airy playgrounds and sports fields…
The school consistently affirms its position in gifted student competitions: with 3 national-level winners in Literature, Geography, and Chemistry; top-ranked provincial-level students for many consecutive years; and for three consecutive years from 2022-2025, the school has had students commended by the Provincial People's Committee, including 4 top-ranked university valedictorians.

In particular, Thanh Chuong 3 High School has successfully built a model of a "House of Wisdom" that operates actively and effectively, spreading the culture of reading and lifelong learning both inside and outside the school. Many localities have come to learn from and exchange experiences with this model. Within this "House of Wisdom," thousands of valuable books are available, helping students relax after stressful study hours, providing them with in-depth knowledge, valuable life lessons, and most importantly, cultivating in them the habit of reading, self-learning, and self-improvement.
A milestone in the 50-year journey.
Fifty years have passed since the school was built in this challenging region. The school is honored and proud to have received three prestigious awards from the President of Vietnam: the Third-Class Labor Medal in 1995, the Second-Class Labor Medal in 2001, and the Third-Class Labor Medal for the second time in 2025.
Thanh Chuong 3 High School is one of the first high schools in Nghe An province to be recognized as a national standard school: In 2009, it achieved national standard level 1, and in 2022, it was recognized as a national standard school at level 2.
The school has received 29 commendations from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and Training, and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, along with many other prestigious awards.
