Fraudulent methods of transporting goods by criminals who have been in and out of prison
Le Quang Vu went online to find posts about hiring freight forwarders. After agreeing with the store owner, Vu would hire a shipping company to pick up the goods and then sell them for money.
On October 29, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Le Quang Vu (born 1990), residing in Son Tra ward, Da Nang city, for the crime of"Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the case file, around April 2024, due to having no job and no money to spend, Le Quang Vu came up with the idea of committing fraud.
Vu's trick was to impersonate a shipping company and go online to find posts about hiring freight forwarders. After chatting, Vu would agree on a price with the shipper to accept the shipping.
After the owner provided the address to receive the goods, Vu would hire a shipping company to pick up the goods and then sell them for money. By doing so, Vu defrauded many victims.
Specifically, on August 7, 2024, Le Quang Vu received 3 cold-rolled steel coils, total weight of more than 12 tons (value of goods more than 350 million VND) from a warehouse in Hoang Mai town (old), Nghe An with a shipping price of 300,000 VND/ton.
The next day, Vu hired a transport unit for 7 million VND to transport the above amount of corrugated iron to Thai Nguyen province to sell to a scrap iron shop for more than 150 million VND.
Then, using the same method, on August 15, Vu agreed to transport and then appropriated 7 rolls of unsheathed cable (total weight of more than 21 tons) and a number of construction materials with a total value of more than 442 million VND.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that the purpose of the fraud was to get money to spend, pay off debts and buy a phone for his girlfriend. The total amount of money that Le Quang Vu appropriated from the victims was nearly 800 million VND.
It is known that this is not the first time the defendant has committed fraud. Previously, in 2013, Vu was sentenced to 5 years in prison for fraud and property appropriation.
Recently, in June 2025, this defendant was sentenced to 30 months in prison by the People's Court of Hoa Vang District (old), Da Nang City for the crime of Extortion. In July 2025, Vu was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the People's Court of Region 1 - Gia Lai for the crime of Abuse of trust to appropriate property.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions violated the law. In this case, the defendant committed a crime with aggravating circumstances, which is committing the crime two or more times. Therefore, the court sentenced Le Quang Vu to 13 years in prison. Combined with the two previous sentences that have not yet been executed, the defendant must serve a total sentence of 21 years and 6 months in prison.
