On May 25, Dien Bien Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Ms. Tran Thi Hien (44 years old, residing in Thanh Hung commune, Dien Bien district) to investigate the act of illegal drug trafficking.

The arrest and search were carried out at Ms. Hien's private home, in Team 5, Thanh Hung Commune (Dien Bien District), witnessed by commune leaders and local departments and branches.

Ms. Hien is the mother of chicken delivery girl Cao My DD who was kidnapped, raped and murdered by Bui Van Cong and 7 other people hired by Vi Van Toan on the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year.

Along with the temporary detention, the police also searched the suspect’s house. During the search, the investigation agency seized many mobile phones and other related documents.

Police suspect that when contacting other subjects in the drug ring, Ms. Hien often used junk SIM cards.

Ms. Hien was identified by the Dien Bien Provincial Police as an important link in the drug ring in Dien Bien. This subject was "circled down" by the police because of her dishonest statements and shady behavior when working with the Investigation Police.

The police are also clarifying the relationship between Ms. Hien and the accused Vi Van Toan and Vi Van Toan's wife, Vi Thi Thu (born in 1982, residing in Team 5, Thanh Yen Commune, Dien Bien District, Dien Bien Province). These two subjects are related to the drug ring in Dien Bien.

However, in a previous interview, Ms. Tran Thi Hien affirmed that she did not know who Vi Van Toan was and had never met him. This woman did not believe that Vi Van Toan was the mastermind behind her daughter’s murder, but that it was someone else who had a grudge against her daughter or her family.

According to sources, when the police executed the order to temporarily detain her at home, Ms. Hien still insisted that she herself did not traffic drugs.

Regarding the case of raping and murdering a young chicken delivery girl in Dien Bien, Dien Bien Provincial Police have so far prosecuted 9 suspects, including: Vi Van Toan (38 years old), Bui Van Cong (44 years old), Vuong Van Hung (35 years old), Pham Van Nhiem (47 years old), Luong Van La (26 years old), Luong Van Hung (39 years old), Pham Van Dung (47 years old), Cam Van Chuong (45 years old, all residing in Dien Bien district).

These people were prosecuted for murder, robbery, rape, illegal possession of drugs, illegal detention and kidnapping for the purpose of appropriating property. In particular, the defendant Bui Thi Kim Thu (44 years old, wife of Bui Van Cong) was prosecuted for failure to report a crime.
