Seized 20,000 IS uniforms

(Baonghean.vn) - Spanish authorities have seized 20,000 military uniforms and supplies "capable of equipping an army" of jihadists, according to a source from the country's Interior Ministry on March 3 (local time).

According to the ministry, the uniforms were confiscated during a police operation that led to the successful neutralization of a “strong and effective business network” whose main purpose was to provide a steady supply of military supplies to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization and the al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra.

The uniforms were hidden in containers and declared as “used clothing” to avoid suspicion and pass customs inspections.

Spanish police have released a photograph of the camouflage uniforms packed in large bags. Officers said the uniforms were wrapped in other layers of fabric.

Two of the three containers were stopped at a port in Valencia and one in Algeciras during an anti-terror operation on February 7. According to the Spanish Interior Ministry, the containers were destined for areas controlled by IS and Jabhat al-Nusra in Iraq and Syria.

Seven suspects of providing financial and logistical support to terrorist groups were also arrested in the recent operation.
