The deer have reached the age of harvesting velvet antlers at Mr. Toan's house.

Deer farming for velvet has been thriving in Quynh Loc commune for decades, with many households becoming millionaires. When the market became saturated, in recent years, Mr. Toan decided to switch to raising deer for velvet. At first, people were hesitant, saying he was taking a risk because deer are used to living in the wild and are afraid of adapting to captivity. However, as he said, he did, and invested in buying a pair of breeding deer to try raising.

After 2 years, the male deer has yielded more than 1.5 kg of velvet antlers. The older the deer, the more velvet antlers it has, reaching 3-4 kg/year. Seeing the effectiveness, he continued to buy more male deer, and female deer to reproduce and increase the herd. The deer can be sold for breeding at about 4 months old.

The main food for deer is grass, forest leaves and supplemented with corn bran and rice, so the cost of raising them is low. When cutting velvet or when the deer give birth, they are fed rice porridge to nourish them. The deer cages he built were quite simple, each cage only needed about 4 square meters to raise each deer separately to avoid them butting each other, covered with wood to create ventilation, and the floor was smooth and clean cement.Clean up once a day. Mr. Toan said raising deer is easier than raising other livestock because diseases rarely occur and the efficiency is high. The output of deer antlers is relatively easy.

Each deer gives 3-4 kg of velvet/year

To date, Mr. Toan has a herd of 10 deer, including 8 male deer for antlers and 2 female deer for breeding. Deer antlers cost 6 million VND/kg, each deer brings in an average income of 15 million VND/year. In addition to selling antlers, he also sells breeding deer at the price of 15-20 million VND/male deer and 7-8 million VND/female deer.

On average, each year, his family earns over 150 million VND from selling deer antlers.
