The excellent goalkeeper of the Vietnamese national team just livestreamed to share about his difficult past. |
The goalkeeper of the Vietnamese national team said that in 1996, he started selling lottery tickets to earn money when he was only 9-10 years old. At that time, Bui Tan Truong only dared to dream of becoming a driver to have enough money to take care of his family, not thinking about becoming a football player or a goalkeeper because it was too far away. He said:"At that time, I was 9-10 years old, around 1996, lottery tickets were 1,000 VND/ticket. My family was not too poor because it was near the market, my mother was a trader. But do you know why I sold lottery tickets? To get money to go out, I loved to play."
Because he grew up without a father, living with his mother and 3 other siblings, Bui Tan Truong consciously made money by doing all kinds of jobs, from selling fruit to trading pork to share the family's finances with his mother.
He recounted his childhood with many memorable milestones: "At the age of 12, I already knew how to ride a 50cc Cub. Every day at 1am, my mother went to the market to buy pork from the trader, and I slept next to her. When she finished cutting the meat at around 2am, I drove her to deliver it to noodle shops, rice shops, etc. Then I went back to sleep so I could go to school at 7am. On each trip, my mother asked someone to carry about 30-50kg of pork onto the car for me to deliver.
One time I fell because I tripped over a pothole. I only got a few scratches but the whole basket of pork fell on the road. Oh my god! It was 2am - 2:30am, there was no one around and I was standing there, I cried so much because I couldn't carry it. And if I dumped the meat, it would be dirty, I couldn't give it to anyone. Luckily, about 15-20 minutes later someone drove by and helped me.
At the age of 13, I went to carry sand and rocks when people needed people to carry materials from boats to the construction site. I carried baskets of sand and rocks until my head was swollen and painful, but I was very happy because I earned money. The first day I earned 12,000 VND, which was a lot at that time. I worked by quantity, so I earned that much. Of the 12,000, I gave 7,000 to my grandmother and took the remaining 5,000 to spend.
One of Tan Truong's memorable memories was when he was 15 years old, he wanted to drop out of school and go to work in Vung Tau to earn money because his family was in debt and could not afford to pay for his child's tuition.
He recalled the time when he started working at a seafood company in Vung Tau with a meager salary of 6 thousand VND/day: "Not having enough to eat, I started stealing again. People brought fish from the sea, including squid and other types of fish, but those types were pushed aside and taken out to sell instead of drying. I thought of a way to put them in gloves and steal them to eat. My younger sister followed me at that time, but she only helped and couldn't do anything, because she was young, so I gave her the stolen goods to keep.
I told you guys and I was so embarrassed! I went out first, he went out later and then he was caught by the security guard. I told you guys and I cried, I felt sorry for my brother. He cried so much that I ran home and told my mom, my mom came and apologized and the security guard forgave him. I will never forget those moments.
After that, Bui Tan Truong switched to selling rambutan, and sales were so bad that he had to eat rambutan instead of meals. At that time, rambutan was 1,500 - 2,000 VND/kg, I ran to the garden to buy 500 - 1,000 VND/kg and then resold it. At first, I bought 50kg and it sold very well, I sold it all. At that time, I knew a little English so I sold it to Westerners, just like 'tu thao sún, oản ki lô' (two thousand, one kilogram) that my younger sister said, not me, I learned from that. The second time, I went to buy it myself, carried 100kg of rambutan home and sold it all, I made a relatively good profit, but the next times, the sales were so bad, I ate rambutan instead of rice.

Fans expect that in the coming time, he will help the Vietnamese team go further in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. |
After going through a difficult time and doing everything he could to earn money, Bui Tan Truong officially entered the football career in 2001. Tan Truong's uncle, the father of former national player Phan Thanh Binh, was the one who encouraged his mother to let him pursue football. Tan Truong's simple wish at that time was that by pursuing football, he would be able to feed and educate himself, and not have to struggle to make a living.
