Income over 70 million VND after 7 months of raising climbing fish in earthen ponds

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 14, the Center for Agricultural Extension - Fisheries Extension of Con Cuong district organized a workshop to summarize and evaluate the model of commercial climbing fish farming in earthen ponds implemented in Luc Da commune. This is a new farming form implemented for the first time in Con Cuong district.

The model was implemented from May 2017 from the province's agricultural extension fund. Accordingly, the Agricultural Extension - Fisheries Extension Station of Con Cuong district selected La Van Hoi household, Tan Hop village, Luc Da commune to implement the model. On a water surface area of ​​700 m², released 1,050 fish fry.

Mr. Hoi's family received 100% support for fish fry and 60% of industrial feed for fish farming from the provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center. The total support value was over 18 million VND. During the implementation of the model, the Center's technical staff coordinated with the commune's agricultural extension staff to regularly visit the household to check the growth rate of the fish and adjust the amount of feed according to each stage of fish growth.

Thanks to the correct application of technical care procedures, the results after nearly 7 months of raising fish showed good growth, survival rate reached 65%, relatively uniform weight, average of nearly 1.5 kg/fish, harvested output of over 700 kg. With an average selling price of 100,000 VND/kg, estimated income of over 73 million VND, minus investment costs, profit reached nearly 50 million VND.

According to the evaluation of the specialized agency on the model, the indicators of scale, size of harvested fish, survival rate, feed coefficient, productivity and output all reached and exceeded the plan. The model of commercial climbing fish in earthen ponds brings high and stable economic value, takes advantage of idle time, fish grow quickly, delicious meat quality, has the outstanding characteristic of being omnivorous, can use industrial feed or self-processed feed, high intensive farming ability, especially less susceptible to harmful diseases.
