A floating device, more than 600m long, will be put into use this summer to collect plastic and other debris floating on the ocean surface. Made from flexible plastic, the device is flexible enough to bend with the waves but strong enough to form a barrier to trap trash.
About 60 of these devices are expected to be deployed in the Pacific Ocean, where there is a floating plastic waste island three times the size of France. Every six to eight weeks, the waste will be collected for recycling.
