A 600-meter-long floating device will be deployed this summer to collect plastic debris and other debris floating on the ocean’s surface. The device is made of flexible plastic, flexible enough to bend with the waves but rigid enough to form a barrier that traps debris.
About 60 of these devices are expected to be deployed in the Pacific Ocean, where there is a floating plastic waste island three times the size of France. Every six to eight weeks, the waste will be collected for recycling.
